I have loved this movie from the first time I saw it and repeated viewings over the years have not diminished it at all. In fact, it seems funnier every time I gawk it. The DVD presentation is ample and the commentary soundtrack by Wilder, Sutherland and Yorkin is worth hearing for any fan of the film. As comic as anything produced by Monty Python, Mel Brooks or Mystery Science Theater, the comedy is dense and unending. Every opportunity for humor is ancient to expansive extent, visually, verbally, and physically. The supporting cast is strong (Billie Whitelaw, Hugh Griffith and more greats) and there are many LOL (laugh out loud) scenes. Thank goodness you can witness this DVD, so it’s always “quiet 1789″!

I first remember seeing this film at age 6. I remember it because not fully belief history, I concept this was a film about the American Revolution and the climax featured American patriots sacking a palace of George III.

I’m surprised there are so many negative reviews of film here on Amazon. The only people I’ve ever met whom even remember this film remember it because it’s one of their favorites.

The plot: Two sets of twin brothers are switched at birth fair before the French Revolution. One situation is raised in the opulence of the aristocracy while the other status are raised as peasants.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Start The Revolution Without Me! Click Here

1789, the rich brothers are sent to infiltrate Louis XIV palace and capture piece in an overly define coup. The unpleasant location are reluctant members of the French revolutionaries. After a mix up, the peasants become guests is Louis XIV’s palace where they are not only out of region at balls and dinners, but fighting for their lives to survive this overly explain coup. In the climax the brothers hover with their girlfriends as the uprising peasants storm the palace in a battle royal.

Why this works:

High production quality: Photography, costume form, site direction, and editing are usually pushed aside in most comedies since the focus is on the actors and the jokes they bid. `Start the Revolution Without Me’ is brilliantly shot on place to a production degree that dwarfs most novel 18th century films and retract bulky advantage of it’s radiant setting.

Orson Wells’ narration: I’d never have guessed that Orson Wells could be so comic. And in fact he isn’t. He narrates throughout as if `Start the Revolution Without Me’ were a serious historical fraction. This is what’s so comical. EVERY scene is introduced with the phrase “1789″ the map only Wells can. After 10 times this really starts to glean laughable.

Corsican brothers ham it up: Gene Wilder and Donald Sutherland really go over board playing the overly putrid and psychotic Corsican twins. Wilder carries his hawk Thor with him at all times. When anyone brings up the fact that Thor is stupid Wilder flies into violent fits. They deem themselves invincible gods.

Ridiculously explain coup plot: Most of the character interaction revolves around a dwelling for the Corsican brothers to execute Louis XIV. However all the characters hold switching sides so worthy it becomes ludicrous. At a costume ball so many secrete notes are passed that the dance floor overflows with them. The coup is headed by a villain “Escargot” who like Orson Wells takes this absurd place very seriously.

Peasant brothers are the only sane people: The peasant brothers also played brilliantly by Wilder and Sutherland act like we would if we lived in `Start the Revolution Without Me’. They peer that the inmates are running the asylum and its best to elope this entire ordeal post hast.

In conclusion, `Start the Revolution Without Me’ is film making at its best. An adventure farce with plenty of obedient humor and truly genius tale telling.

The critics here on Amazon are being contrivance to harsh, saying that it does not compare to Alexander Dumas or other spacious literary works. This is a kin to saying that `The Naked Gun’ was not as pleasurable of a portrayal of terrorism as James Bond. They are to wayyyy different things.

This movie was filmed for the Disney anthology TV series “Walt Disney’s Astounding World Of Color” (also known as “The Improbable World Of Color”) and was shown in two parts on January 7 & 14, 1962. The film was released theatrically outside the United States in 1964. I contemplate this film among Disney’s best live-action films of its time.

The film is based on Mary Mapes Dodge’s classic 1865 book of the same title. It is a shame that the book and film are both unknown by most people, because both are very special.

The yarn has everything I want in a film - characters I can appreciate and care about, who overcome numerous hardships and get their ecstatic ending.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Hans Brinker or the Silver Skates! Click Here

The scenery is sparkling - filmed in the Zuider Zee residence of Holland come the scenic communities of Comperduin and Volendam, as well as at Rembrandt’s home in Amsterdam. The winter scenes for the skating races were filmed in Sweden.

The basic set is of a brother and sister trying to derive a skating urge for money for their father’s operation. He needs an operation due to brain afflict from a head injury. The family is also desperately abominable, because only the father knows where their savings are hidden - and he cannot remember. The legend is fat of adventure, hardship, mystery, and the like of a family for each other.

I first remember this film from seeing it on the Disney Channel in the mid 1980s. I have enjoyed watching the film numerous times over the years and am thrilled to finally have a chance to win it on DVD.

This was a extraordinary uplifting family movie and was understood even by my 5 year outmoded grandchild. It held all of our attention thoughout the movie.

As Volume 14 of Fighting Spirit opens, Ippo and company are wrapping up their training in the woods. Takamura evens gets to go one on one against a man-eating gain with hilarious results, which further adds to his yarn and ego as he gets a chance to go for the world title. When Ippo gets support to the city, he has no time to rest as he spars with the guy that’s going to fight Sendo, a fighter named Shigeta, and gets roughed up because the guy is a southpaw. The guy is so strong that Ippo wonders if Sendo will be able to defeat him. Ippo takes a smash from training and goes out on his first full-fledged date with Kumi, the girl he’s had a crush on for most of the series.

This next to last volume of Fighting Spirit is nothing fresh under the sun for this noble and piquant display. We gain to eye a lot of the humanity of the characters like Sendo and even the Chief as his old-fashioned pal and rival Nekota comes to visit. Takamura comes off smarter than usual as he uses the believe incident to mythologize himself and dismay opponents. But probably my popular episode on this disk was the one about Ippo and Yumi’s date at the zoo, which was a welcome peace before we open the last arc about the fight between Ippo and the winner of the Sendo/Shigeta bout. This is a tall indicate.

-]. Lustrous, if you like Sendo (Rocky of naniwa), you’ll appreciate this DVD, splendid fights in this. Definatly a must glimpse .[-

Compare Prices on The Rockford Files - Season One

The Rockford Files in my notion was the best TV series ever, and without a doubt was definitely the best TV detective series.

From his trailer office to his home made business card printer, Rockford was truly unconventional. That is what station him apart from his other 70’s detective peers. The best section about Rockford was that he was human. He was frequently putrid in his assumptions, he got beat up a lot, and unlike other macho types, he didn’t always accumulate “the girl.” Angel played by Stuart Margolin added hilarity to the note, and Rockford’s dad, played by Noah Beery, gave it a nice family feeling as well. Overall, this was simply an outstanding prove, and compared to some of the shows from the 1970’s that are already out on DVD, it really makes no sense that this display is not yet out on DVD, and I behold forward to the day when The Rockford Files is finally out in DVD format in all 6 of its astonishing seasons.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Rockford Files - Season One! Click Here

James Garner’s laconic charm as Jim Rockford kept us coming aid for more each week and finally won him an Emmy in 1977. Garner, who would have been a star in any era, and sometimes seemed as if he would have fit more into films of the 1940’s, finally found the perfect role on television as Jim Rockford, an ex-con given a corpulent pardon when it was discovered he was innocent after all. Working as a P.I. and parking his gold Firebird in front of his trailor on the L.A. beach, Rockford could never quite shake the ex-con stamp, nor could he shake his former cellmate, Evelyn “Angel” Martin.

Stuart Margolin was simply astounding as the scheming Angel, always with an angle, and always clear to rep Rockford into concern when it backfired. Like Rockford, you objective couldn’t halt wrathful at Angel, no matter what con had blown up in his face or how great wretchedness he would glean our accepted TV detective in from time to time. Rockford and Angel remained friends because of that unspoken bond all ex-cons have, and because deep down, Angel was a stand-up guy, though you couldn’t always narrate it from looking at the surface.

Except for the 90 little pilot episode, “Backlash of the Hunter,” starring Lindsay Wagner as Sarah Butler, who would resurface in another episode from the first season, “Aura Lee, Farewell,” Noah Beery Jr. portrayed Rockford’s lovable dad, Rocky. Rocky was a retired trucker who loved to fish, and passed on the hobby to Jim. It was the tiny moments like fishing that were really the heart and soul of this present when you halt to mediate about it. There were always a few slice-of-life moments mingled in with the grand car chases, dazzling con games, and other assorted mischief, as Rockford tried to solve a closed case and conclude out of jail at the same time. Some weeks he was fair trying to conclude alive. Rocky would always give Jim that “study” if he had to reach post bail.

Joe Santos was Rockford’s often mad police pal, Dennis Becker. He was the buffer between Rockford and Lt. Diehl (Tom Atkins), who hated Rockford and would have liked to purchase away his P.I. license. Becker was a pal, but could only do so worthy for Jim as he had to conclude out of hot water with Diehl himself. He had a wife and kids to assist, and for some unusual reason, that sometimes took priority over helping Rockford out of a complicated predicament.

Last, but by no means least, was Gretchen Corbett as lawyer Beth Davenport. The relationship between she and Rockford was complicated. They both had a deep affection for each other, which was sometimes complicated by the attorney-client relationship. Her efforts to support Jim out of grief with the cops took up a lot of her time. There was a romance of sorts between the two, but it never matured into something that would lead to marriage.

The first season had some broad guest stars, in addition to the already mentioned Lindsay Wagner. Other guest stars from season one were: Ned Beaty, Sharon Gless, James Woods, Linda Evans, Jackie Cooper, Hector Elizondo, Diana Muldaur, Suzanne Somers, Tony Mustane, and hide sage Joseph Cotton.

There were many mammoth episodes the first season, in addition to the 90 runt pilot. Those episodes are as follows: THE KIRKOFF CASE — THE Dismal AND BLOODY GROUND — THE COUNTESS — EXIT PRENTISS CARR — Sizable WOMAN IN RED WAGON — THIS CASE IS CLOSED I — THIS CASE IS CLOSED II — THE Spacious RIPOFF — Win ME IF YOU CAN — THE PURSUIT OF CAROL THORNE — THE DEXTER CRISIS — “CALEDONIA, IT’S WORTH A FORTUNE” — PROFIT AND LOSS I — PROFIT AND LOSS II — AURA LEE, FAREWELL — Limited OF HAND — COUNTER GAMBIT — CLAIRE — SAY GOODBYE TO JENNIFER — CHARLIE HARRIS AT Expansive — THE FOUR POUND BRICK — Honest BY ACCIDENT — ROUNDABOUT

Stephen J. Cannell and Roy Huggins created this fantastic series and Juanita Bartlett wrote some of the finest scripts ever done for television. James Garner was absolutely perfect as Jim Rockford, and it has become difficult as the years have passed to separate the two in our minds. Garner was, and is, a colossal actor and cloak presence who made everything witness easy. This was a terrific present and one of the best ever to be beamed into our homes once a week.

This DVD position has been too long coming, but now that it’s unbiased around the corner, there is a sense of anticipation by fans who will be chomping at the bit until it’s in their hot diminutive hands. We all will, as everyone loved “The Rockford Files” and couldn’t wait to hear Mike Post’s ample theme music each week. It was recorded and turned into a radio hit it was so reliable.

Once again we will salvage to listen to all those crazy messages left on Jim Rockford’s answering machine. Fans never missed the opening of the reveal because a smile or a obedient laugh might be missed. You don’t want to miss it either.

“This is Jim Rockford. At the tone, leave your name and message and I’ll earn relieve to you.”

I am sooooooooooooooo ecstatic that one of my all time well-liked movies has finally near out on DVD. I cherish this movie so mighty. It’s one of the funniest movies I’ve ever seen. Every time it comes on TV, I peek it like it’s modern. My popular scene is when she dresses like one of the supremes and she gets her dress caught in the shredder, I laugh so hard at that point. Please, if you haven’t seen this movie, it is a must have, cause it is unbelievably humorous.

“Jumpin’ Jack Flash” is a Titanic movie filled with hysterical lines and a zany cast. This is almost a cult classic and it is a tragedy that the movie isn’t on DVD! Why, impartial the fact that Whoopie is in it would execute it sell tremendous and there are at least two generations missing out on this film that would go nuts for it… MY terrible VHS copy is almost veteran out and there are so many savory quips and lines in this film, almost nothing puts me in a better moood! (”Gain yourself an office - with a desk and a lamp!”) PLEASE reach to your senses an set this puny gem, for its 20th anniversary at least, onto DVD!

Go Voltron!

This state includes fourteen episodes of the Lion Force Voltron series. These are the final seven episodes adapted from the Beast King GoLion episodes, and the first seven episodes that were produced by World Events Productions for a second season of Lion Force Voltron.

On this dwelling, there are five items in the “Special Features” menu. The first is labeled, “Order Actor Interviews.” Neil Ross, BJ Ward, and Michael Bell were interviewed for this feature. They talked about how they auditioned, what characters they portrayed, the recording process, how they developed their characters, and remembering cast member Lennie Weinrib (who had passed away while the Lion Force Voltron DVD sets were being released) .

The next feature is labeled, “Season Three Featurette.” This share includes interviews with Franklin Cofod, Marc Handler, Peter Keefe, and Bill England. This featurette explains why World Events Productions produced current Lion Force Voltron episodes instead of dubbing Albegas (a third robot series they had acquired the rights for) . They also talk about how they got several staff members from the fresh Beast King GoLion series to fabricate the unusual episodes, and define the process that was frail to get the novel episodes. The featurette ends with talking about the two modern characters (Cossack and Merla) that were introduced in the novel Lion Force Voltron episodes.

The next feature is “Man on the Street: Voltron Memories.” These are “man on the street” interviews conducted by Jeremy Corray. He went around the streets of St. Louis and randomly asked people if they remembered Voltron. Unfortunately, most of the people interviewed seemed to only have really vague memories of the point to, and were more likely than not to give absolutely corrupt information.

The “Gallery 1984″ feature is a slideshow of production art, stills from the present, pictures from the Voltron Bellow event, and pictures of Ted Koplar and Peter Keefe sititng at a table with Voltron toys. Unfortunately, there’s no method for the viewer to control how rapid the pictures go through the slideshow. The final feature on the region are trailers for other properties released by AnimeWorks.

For fans of Voltron, this place allows you to find more episodes of the Lion Force Voltron series for your DVD collection. The first couple of special features on this plot are beautiful decent, but the others are a disappointment. Even with that flaw, this situation is tranquil worth owning, especially if you are a Voltron fan.

Growing up as a child in the 1970’s I remember watching THE Amazing WORLD OF DISNEY every Sunday evening at 7pm. I of course enjoyed the cartoons but also enjoyed the many live action Dinsey movies such as THE SHAGGY DOG, THE SHAGGY D.A., POLLYANNA, THE WHIZ KIDS movies and of course the WITCH MOUNTAIN movies. I remember looking forward to Flee TO WITCH MOUNTAIN and would invent it a point to never miss this movie when it aired.

The narrative is about a brother and sister, Tony & Tia, who along with their alien family tried to migrate to Earth but crashed upon arriving. Tony and Tia then try to locate their family with the assistance of a widower while trying to avoid a rich villan who wants to exhaust the kids Extra Sensory Powers (ESP) to further his greedy goals. As a child I actually found this movie to be very scary. I actually feared for Tony and Tia. Now as an adult it has lost the scary aspect. That comes with age I guess. It is unexcited a helpful sight though.

I have wanted to catch this film for years so my children could behold it. Now that they are pre-teens and begining to lose their childhood innocence I was finally able to pick this unique DVD. As I suspected they were reluctant to see this movie and the sequel RETURN FROM WITCH MOUNTAIN. I finally got them to search for the films and they did bask in the them but obviously it did not have the same do on them as it did me. However younger children, especially those who have not been noxious by CGI special effects will no doubt unruffled savor the films. I tried to interpret to my children that as a grade schooler I had a broad crush on Kim Richards (Tia) . I got teased for that and of course when I teased my boy about his attraction to Hillary Duff that was a different matter. Go figure.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Escape to Witch Mountain! Click Here

The DVD has some nice special features. Interviews, cartoons and other such material. I don’t have enough distinct things to say about Disney’s former movies being offered through their Vault Disney line of products.

I impartial got my DVD copies of both films(This & Return from witch mountain.) This is a very grand movie. It’s about two kids who have supernatural powers. They can forsee the future, talk to animals, choose things in the air-and jump 15 feet in the air to glean a baseball.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Escape to Witch Mountain! Click Here

However, they don’t know how they got these powers. Where they born with these powers? The two kids Tony & Tia(Played by Ike Eisenmann & Kim Richards) are different from the other kids. After a confrontation with Truck(Dermott Downs), They notice a procedure inside of Tia’s star case.

After saving the life of a man, he comes and claims to be thier uncle-they are forced to live with him. It turns out that his employer is none other than Mr. Prance(Ray Miland) who wants to expend them for his fill ends. Tia smells outrageous fish (Try Inappropriate eggs) -she senses very strongly-that Mr Breeze is not a very nice man and she senses inconvenience if they conclude at Mr. Bolt’s Mansion.

Then, when they dine with Mr. Trudge(I never did say he wasn’t a gentleman-just not a very nice one) Mr Glide tells them that he knows about thier powers and tells them how to beget it gracious. After going to another room, Tia & Tony overhear a coversation that MR. Scamper is planning to have them locked away on a deserted island. Tia & Tony then construct plans of esacpe.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Escape to Witch Mountain! Click Here

They do run and are chased till the demolish of the film. Helping them is a crusty feeble man Jason O’Day(Well played by Eddie Albert) Who has a winnebego.

I must say that the Chemistry between Eisenmann & Richards worked so well, people judge they are brother & Sister in trusty life. They are not related in exact life. I assume it’s the acting talents of these two is what made it work so well. Dirctor John Hough(The account of hell house) did a much job on this film.

The special effects were tall for it’s time. Some of them were cheezy, but in those days(The 70’s) they didn’t have computors. But in my concept, the powers these kids have is not the valid legend. The sincere tale is that two childern are searching for home, and discovering who they really are. This is the narrative.

The DVD has some special features on it and an audio commentary by Kim & Ike and John Hough. It provides a lot of insight on how the film was made.

My ex-wife could never understand why I (the unusual couch potato) could never acquire enough of nature shows on TV. It was rather difficult to elaborate how curious I found the natural world, especially from the comfort of my possess living room. And admittedly, some of those WILD KINGDOM episodes were kind of hokey. (I remember how betrayed I felt when I found out that Jim and Marlin had staged most of the splendid scenes and hadn’t actually ventured to the wilds of Africa or the Amazon. Maybe they were unprejudiced couch potatoes at heart too.)

But French filmmaker, Jacques Perrin and crew are certainly the proper deal. This breathtaking documentary is one that I would unqualifiedly recommend–to objective about anyone. Even my “ex” called recently to let me know that this film had left her in tears. I found it equally absorbing, and plainly I wasn’t alone. In fact, when I saw it the whole theater burst into applause at the extinguish.

As others have renowned, the camera work on this film is horror engaging. I have seen a few television docs with this kind of upclose footage before (I believe maybe the EYEWITNESS series? ), but none have sustained the accomplish for very long, and most don’t pack the emotional wallop of this film.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Winged Migration! Click Here

Between this film and the unusual SPELLBOUND, I can discover an expanding market for documentaries–at least the more current and engaging ones. A colossal film for family viewing, although younger children may be upset by the depiction of some of nature’s (and mankind’s) harsher realities. Otherwise, a upright must-see in a sea of only purported must-sees.

This 2001 award-winning documentary by Jacques Perrin certainly is unusual. It’s a tubby 99 minutes of ravishing cinematography of migrating birds, some species flying as far as 12,500 miles each year. There are a few captions, which drawl the name of the bird and the amount of mileage they hover in order to migrate. There’s also some light background music as well as natural sounds, and a few sentences, spoken by the director. Other than that, it’s only the birds, whose migratory patterns were followed for three years.

At the beginning of the film there’s a disclaimer informing the audience that there were no special effects were stale. And so I sat there in wonder of how they were able to carry out all their shots. There’s the beauty of birds flying in formation, conclude up shots of them feeding their young, competing with each other, stopping to rest. And there’s one gorgeous shot of fleeing an avalanche.

There are different species filmed in different areas of the world. We scrutinize the Artic Circle, the American Southwest, the industrial areas of Eastern Europe, the tall oceans, the skyline of cities and even a shot as they flit past the World Trade Center and the Statue of Liberty. We also seek hunters whose gunfire brings sudden death as well as a bird with a broken waft who is attacked and devoured by crabs.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Winged Migration! Click Here

Here is nature, in all its power and glory. I sat there wide-eyed, taking it all in. And somehow, the petty concerns of my daily life seemed to plunge into perspective.

Some people might bag this film listless and I doubt if it will net wide distribution in theaters. It’s only playing in one theater in Recent York and, even in this densely populated city, there was a very sparse audience. I’m pleased I was one of the people in that audience though because I loved every moment of the film would definitely leer it again on DVD, especially if it had special features to portray how the cinematography was done.

Highly recommended.

Here’s a movie for dog lovers, the elderly, children of divorce, FOBs (Friends of Birds), worn Boy Scouts, people yearning for adventure, and anyone who has ever loved… and lost. Up is for everyone. It made me laugh out loud, and it made me yowl.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Up! Click Here

I concept it would be tough for Up to match the emotional power of Wall-E. The two Pixar films are similar in their lack of dialogue in the first act, which helps deepen the emotional impact. Up begins with Carl, a petrified young boy star-struck by a notorious explorer; and kookie Ellie, who has a similar obsession. The two kids become hasty friends, and content to one day proceed to Venezuela’s Paradise Falls. After getting married, they select their dream home and fix it up, hoping to acquire it with children. Carl and Ellie’s life together from childhood through used age is depicted, silently, with delicacy and subtlety. The first 15 minutes is like a celebration of a tickled marriage, and you truly feel Carl’s harm when he is left alone. He sits slumped in his chair, talking to the house as if it is the missing Ellie.

When developers end in on Carl’s beloved home, he decides to fulfill his promise to Ellie and depart to Paradise Falls. A extinct balloon vendor, Carl lifts his home with hundreds of shimmering balloons. Stowing away on the porch is Russell, a fat, bold kid trying to salvage a scouting badge.

After landing in Paradise Falls, the musty man and the diminutive boy are joined by a golden retriever named Dug who can talk with his collar, and a great rare bird that bonds with Russell (he names her “Kevin”) . Dug is priceless: spot-on for every dog that ever lived, including an obsession with squirrels. Through a series of finish calls and adventures, the quartet vanquishes a villain, saving the day. And Russell earns his scouting badge.

In the process, Carl learns to let go of his dark mourning for Ellie, and live life again. When this happens, a truly magical thing happens. Before, Carl’s craggy face is gray and monochromatic. At the moment of his transformation, Carl’s face is awash in color, and he is surrounded by fine hues. It reminded me of The Wizard of Oz, when Dorothy steps out of her gray world and into a candy-colored Munchkinland. Carl, too, enters a whole original world.

Up is a deeply emotional film, plump of truth. It’s the year’s best film. Accept another triumph for Pixar.

Someday, Pixar is going to do it — they’re going to compose an emotionally uninspiring, lackluster keen movie. But in the meantime, they’re unruffled putting out scrumptious spellbinding movies like “Up,” which defies the usual kid-movie conventions by starring a crotchety dilapidated man. It’s a charming, fun shrimp adventure yarn with flying dogs and balloon-powered houses, but underlying it is a bittersweet miniature epic about loss and care for.

As a child, the panicked Carl Fredricksen bonded with the oddball Ellie over their shared treasure of adventure, the explorer Charles Muntz, and Paradise Falls. They later married, depart into their “clubhouse” together, and lived a long, sadly childless life together. When Ellie died, she had never fulfilled her dream of going to Paradise Falls.

Now crotchety, alone and harassed by a accurate estate developer, Carl (Ed Asner) is finally ordered to a retirement home. But he isn’t going quietly — instead he attaches thousands of balloons to his house and floats it away toward South America. But he accidentally takes an fervent, naive Wilderness Explorer (a thinly-veiled Boy Scout) named Russell (Jordan Nagai) along for the hump. Bad kid was honest trying to rep an “assisting the elderly” badge.

And the jungle accelerate to Paradise Falls turns out to have some surprising obstacles: a enormous emulike bird that Russell names Kevin, a talking dog named Dug (”I am jumping on you, bird!”), and a mysterious old-fashioned man who lives deep in the heart of the jungle. Turns out the used guy is very familiar to Carl — and to purchase Kevin, he’s willing to sacrifice Carl and Russell.

Industry experts were babbling about how “Up” wouldn’t be as well-liked as the previous Pixar movies, because the protagonist is basically a crusty outmoded coot. Well, shows what they know. It ended up becoming one of those classic movies that somehow appeals to all ages — while the humor and action appeal to children, adults can relish Carl’s adore for his lost wife, and his tiresome realization that he’s clinging to the past.

In fact, the first ten minutes are some of the most heart-tugging, quietly bittersweet scenes I’ve seen in a long time. Without a word, they expose all the ups and downs of a realistic marriage — joys, sorrows (Ellie’s inability to have children), growing worn together, and finally loss.

But it’s not a depressing movie by any stretch — in fact, it’s like a childhood fantasy approach to life, complete with a floating house suspended on hundreds of balloons, and biplanes piloted by a talking dog army.. Plenty of astronomical dialogue (”Do you want to play a game? It’s called Stare Who Can Go the Longest Without Saying Anything.” “Icy! My mom loves that game!”) and an action-packed climax in an primitive airship.

Ed Asner is absolutely perfect as ubergrouch Carl — crotchety, grumpy, and clear to fulfill his wife’s lifelong dream, but gradually realizing he’s clinging to the past. Nagai is equally perfect as Carl’s polar opposite: a naive, chattery Scout who is clear to reunite Kevin with her baby chicks. And the utterly adorable Dug and the other dogs deserve special see. These creatures are utterly hilarious — they talk (”I hid under your porch because I admire you”) and act the arrangement dogs would if they talked. Three words: cone of shame.

The two-disc edition is going to have some very nice extras, but once again people with regular-def DVDs are going to find shafted because the Blu-ray edition will have a bunch of peculiar stuff. Grr. As for this one, there’s a digital copy, the director’s audio commentary, kinda-alternate-ending “The Many Endings of Muntz,” and the documentary “Adventure Is Out There” about the research for this movie.

There are also a pair of adorable arresting shorts. “Partly Cloudy” has a much-abused stork having to whine potentially deplorable baby creatures from a kind but clueless cloud. And “Dug’s Special Mission” is a sort of backstory for the adorable Dug, explaining what the heck he was doing before he met up with Carl and Russell.

“Up” continues Pixar’s running tally of gloriously sharp, emotionally layered movies that the entire family can devour. With that, I have only one more thing to say… SQUIRREL!

This movie is actually a filmed version of a play and this is definite in the viewing; the director doesn’t get spend of all the potential of the medium, it’s filmed all in one purchase (objective as a play goes from open to attain in one go), and the scene transitions are abrupt and bad. That being said, this film deserves no other criticism; it is certainly the finest I’ve ever seen and, I would argue, a astronomical movie in the English cinema. What makes it deserve such praise is that the acting is all very convincing and compelling, the costumes and staging are sublime and the script is, simply effect, gleaming. The current title of the work fuctions as an pleasant summary: “The assasination and persecution of Jean-Paul Marat as performed by the inmates of the asylum at Charenton under the direction of the Marquis de Sade.” Location in the Napoleonic era eighteen years after the French Revolution, the Marquis (imprisoned for both political and sex crimes) directs the mentally ill inmates in a stylized recreation of the destroy of Jean-Paul Marat (a rabid Jacobin, confined to his bathtub by a skin disease, who wrote the most sanguinary Revolutionary propaganda) by Charlotte Corday (from a reliable background, but actually a partisan of the Girondin Revolutionaries who had been purged by Marat’s party) . This is a highly cerebral play and, although the scrip (a translation of Peter Wiess’ play) takes a very few liberties with the historical facts, a knowledge of the Revolution greatly helps in idea and appreciating this sometimes obscure movie. There are right shiny pyrotechnics in the debates between Marat and de Sade, and the Marat’s monologues are filled with delicate revolutionary polemics. Corday is very well played, and her scenes are some of the most emotionally intense. The gleaming script, which doesn’t shrink from tackiling tall Ideas, combined with the colossal execution fabricate this a gracious movie. Or rather film.

This 1966 film depicts the Marquis de Sade’s imprisonment in a mental asylum and a play that he directs using the other inmates as actors. The yarn of Sade was recently related in “Quills,” and that film is somewhat similar in tone, but not spot. Bear it or not, the film is also a musical! The “play” within the movie chronicles events from the French Revolution pertaining to Marat, and is assign on for the asylum’s leader and the local gentry. The local gentry are terrified at times, and the asylum leader interrupts the play several times with interjections concerning the play’s radical ideas and how the gentry are depicted. As the play reaches its culmination, the inmates inevitably launch to stage their believe revolution. The action is often confusing, but the emotions conveyed are so intense, that the film can be enjoyed on a visceral level.

The direction of this film is quite smart, and it must have been splendid unsightly when it was released 36 years ago. The acting is also very intense and realistic. Glenda Jackson has her starring debut here and is quite entertaining, considering that she’s playing a mental asylum inmate. The only quibble I have with the DVD is the abominable sound quality. Even on DVD, the sound is muddled and the actor’s dialogue is often unintelligible, especially during the songs. Unfortunately, the DVD does not include captions/subtitles, which would have helped immensely (there are no other extras either) . A very worthwhile movie that could have been presented better on this DVD.
