This is a immense character film expanding the lives of four young girls from the edifying musty 70’s decade and stirring up a lot of former memories.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Now and Then! Click Here

The film starts with the adult versions of the four girls played by Rosie O’Donnell, Melanie Griffith, Demi Moore and Rita Wilson as they approach together for a reunion for the birth of Wilson’s child. Not noteworthy has changed! O’Donnell has become a doctor, Griffith a movie star, Moore a writer and Wilson a pink and perky mother to be. This film allows us all to notice how these women came to be and it is actually elegant insightful. So sit benefit and engage yourself on an “ragged school” dart befriend in time.

Soon enough this movie goes serve in time to the early 70’s when kids could poke bikes all over town, ice cream sodas were the rage, AM radios hung on every handlebar, laughter hung in the air and stories were meant to be told. The young O’Donnell is played by Christina Ricci, a tough tomboy growing up in a family of men because her mother was killed. Ricci is the strong one, the shoulder to yowl on, the fighter who would rather play sports than sprout a couple of breasts. Griffith is portrayed as a young girl by Thora Birch and as a youth is fascinated early by sex, false breasts and being an actress. Birch is the adventurer, the wandering heart and the heartbreaker of the group. Moore’s child is played by Gaby Hoffman and she is the calm, introspective and questioning young girl. Hoffman gets herself in all sorts of dilemmas stemming from the shame of divorced parents who act more like children than she does. Finally Wilson is played by Ashleigh Aston Moore, and of all the girls she remains steadfastly the same in adulthood as in youth, a simple, rather innocent girl surrounded by a perfectionist mother (played by Bonnie Hunt!) and an entire room of pink and lacy curtains.

The young girls are shown growing up and bold the world, finding where they all belong and how they are alike yet very different. The film brings benefit colossal memories of the time through the consume of gigantic music and ties to determined events that impacted the generation. The happiness and innocence of the decade is found on the country roads and soda shops as the girls concept their adventures. Droll crushes and fights with boys are inevitable along with all the challenges of growing up unpleasant. All of the fun of childhood is represented here, the cemetery séances, tree-house meetings, excursions on bicycles, splashes in the river, sneaking out the bedroom window at night and childhood friendships that should last a lifetime. I found this film curious and insightful, but then I came from the same generation so I can totally describe. So I scrutinize it every now and then for the sweetness and the memories of a mountainous childhood.

“Now and Then” is a very big depiction of growing up..
And it features the early days of 2 of now our greatest and most sexiest actresses Thora Birch (here she is a blonde) and my celebrated Christina Ricci..They shine as does the other 2 girls in this more then incredible movie..The movie features a unbelievable 1970s Classic Rock soundtrack..It covers all areas of what 70s Classic Rock was..Hold up the cd soundtrack while you are at it along with this dvd..The only downside on this dvd is there is SADLY No Slack The Scenes..I wish they would have slack the scenes and bloopers of this movie would have been grand..
And even better would be a reunion of the cast..Coz i am wondering what ever became of the other 2 actresses in this movie with Ricci & Birch..And this too i consider they could have casted the “older” versions of the girls better then they did..Rosie O Donnell as the older Christina Ricci in Rosie’s dreams..The only one of the “older” versions that is really believable that can really recount is Melanie Griffith as the “older” Thora Birth..But they are not in this movie long thankfully..They are only in originate and demolish with maybe a total time of 5 minutes or a tad more..Not enough to destroy this huge movie..The movie focuses thankfully more on Ricci / Birch and the girls..Other then what i impartial mentioned this is one of the greatest films you will ever observe..And if you had been between ages 5 and teen years in the 1970s it will bring serve loads of memories..Everything from the opening scene of the girls playing “red rover red rover let (attach your name here) arrive over” to the music to the looks and impartial things did as a kid and teen in those days..It is reinacted sooooo well that you can’t even mutter this is a 1995 movie..The sets the feeling is total 70s..It is recreated magnificentally..I am 38 this year *2004* and it brought encourage many memories for me..Christina Ricci here reminds me sooooo distinguished of My Beloved Mandy when we first met correct down to a priceless basketball scene..So this movie has sentimental value to me..Peer this movie maybe it will touch you in that arrangement too..But either method i can guarentee that it will bring support memories..It will be a fun filled viewing exsperiance..A kind of a early teen girl version of Stand By Me..Exquisite Fun and Astonishing filmed movie adds up fun for all no matter when your generation is.NOT TO BE MISSED
Gets better with every single time you scrutinize it..A must for any fan of the one and only Christina Ricci..If you are a fan of Christina Ricci and you don’t have this movie secure this movie to demonstrate you are her fan..Christina Ricci Rules……

This is a technically striking and visually radiant restoration of four of Bergman’s key works. The extras on the disks are sparse, as might be expected. My personal choice was to skip the learned commentary for now, as I wanted to re-experience the three dramas (after about four decades) from my occupy recollections, though I did like the technical comparisons illustrating the depth and detail of the restoration work. The quality of these disks highlights Bergman’s mastery of monochrome cinema, and heightened both my enjoyment and thought of the works. The accepted of my youth, “The Seventh Seal,” is composed incredible, though the symbolism is somewhat lessened by the passage of [my] years and, sadly, the enormous and often comedic imitation of Bergman’s personification of death in others’ work. Several of the iconic scenes are even more distinguished thanks to the quality of the print. My novel approved is “Virgin Spring,” the record of the tragic consequences proceeding from a young girl’s innocence and budding romantic awareness leading to rape, cancel and brutal revenge. Bergman’s skill left me with the heartbreaking recount not only of selfish brutality and young life lost but of the death of beauty itself. “Wild Strawberries” is the work that rose the most in my estimation. It is the fantasy-laced memoir of an elderly and accomplished man forced to confront the emotional poverty of his youth more directly and deeply than Mr. Scrooge or Professor Unrath. A change of slump is the “Smiles of a Summer Night,” an comic comedy of the absurd which, taken with the other works, shows how Bergman’s ogle for comely young women surely imprinted the image of Swedish womanhood in the west of the last half-century. Satisfactory sound quality, nicely subtitled in English, and worth every penny, even (perhaps especially) if you already have one or two of the works in poorer prints.

I don’t know about the other people that bought this box region, but in my case there aren’t any bonus features on The Seventh Seal disc at all, despite what it says on the camouflage about commentary and other stuff…

It has been a while since I’ve reviewed something on my lifelong favorite’s list. So I’ve chosen “Time After Time” because it isn’t very well known by younger audiences nor is it necessarily considered a “classic.”

However, I instantly fell in esteem with this movie over 25 years ago–and I peaceful mediate it a rip-roaring satisfactory time!

Buy,Download, Or Stream Time After Time! Click Here

Starting out with the most bizarre state ever, “Time After Time” will support you enthralled. It is a sparkling popcorn flick–fast, light, fun, and keen in equal measures. Site in 1893, we meet H. G. Wells (Malcolm MacDowell) who is unknowingly friends with Jack The Ripper (David Warner) . MacDowell has constructed a time machine which Warner misappropriates as he is fleeing the authorities. He travels to novel day San Francisco where he continues his murderous ways. MacDowell follows him, he must end Jack The Ripper! He meets up with a local woman, Mary Steenburgen, who helps him adjusts and ultimately gets caught up in his unlikely anecdote.

“Time After Time” succeeds in several different genres concurrently. This is a credible sci-fi pic, a sweet romance, a fish out of water comedy, as well as a decent serial killer thriller. I contemplate that’s what I esteem and respect about this film, it’s out there. There is no intention that this recount should work, it should be abominable. And yet, inexplicably, Nicholas Meyer has crafted an intricate and doughty work. Even if I didn’t appreciate this movie, I would respect its ambition and scope. But care for it I do, this is one of the most wildly enchanting pictures you could hope to scrutinize. Some people might be tempted to dismiss this work as dated or even slight–and yes, you do have to get that this is a product of the 70’s. There are references to “free admire” and other concepts of the era, but at the same time–the film is incredibly prescient about violence in the fresh age. Every time Warner describes how he was meant to exist in this future, where killings and debauchery are commonplace, I understand a staunch truth in his sentiment.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Time After Time! Click Here

The performances are cracking first-rate. MacDowell is the unlikeliest hero and a refreshing romantic lead. Warner has NEVER NEVER been better. If you are even a passing fan of his, you must recognize this record. And Mary Steenburgen is a delight–she doesn’t do enough these days! Maybe this isn’t highbrow entertainment, but it is fair fun. Recommended to all without even the slightest hesitation. KGHarris, 12/06.

It’s astonishing that with time go stories having been around for 100 years that we can continue to contemplate of variations. In this case the variation is a suitable one, perhaps one of the best that has ever been done.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Time After Time! Click Here

A relatively innocent and naive H.G. Wells, well-played by a Malcolm McDowell very different from the one that played Alex in “A Clockwork Orange”, sets the stage for Jack the Ripper, played by David Warner, to disappear forward into 1979 to menace recent San Francisco.

The movie has a few flaws. The special effects of time depart are a bit cheesy. Fortunately time depart is a draw to situation the stage for the movie, and the customary special effects can be forgiven given the quality of the rest of the movie. As for why the time machine moved from London to San Francisco, there isn’t any really profitable intention to clarify how that happened. The best explanation I can give is that the Earth was spinning below the time machine as it maintained a fixed place. However, gravity must have played a role because had that been really apt, both Jack the Ripper and H.G. Wells would have ended up in outer region as The Earth and the solar system moved out from under them. If you can suspend your notion in time disappear you can also suspend your notion in how the time machine moved.

Getting past the special effects you accumulate to a favorable early performance by twenty-five year veteran Mary Steenburgen. She plays a very current woman to Malcolm McDowell’s Victorian naivete, and while she is very recent, holding an executive status and talking about sexual relationships with the casualness of pre-aids 1979, she also has an innocence of her occupy that is well obedient to Malcolm’s character.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Time After Time! Click Here

David Warner, who has often played in poor guy roles, moves from relatively restrictive Victorian London to the relatively violent society of 20th century San Francisco, where, as he tells Malcolm McDowell, he fits fair in with his violent ways. David projects such a unbelievable matter-of-fact spoiled that is perfectly believable and all the more horrid because he seems so normal except when threatening or killing someone. His casual tendency to bloody violence (which unfortunately leads to more periodic extinct special effects when blood splatters) inequity well with the relative innocence of McDowell and Steenburgen.

The entire point of the movie is that H.G. Wells created the time machine that allowed Jack the Ripper to hasten to wreak havoc on novel utopian society (so H.G. Wells idea it would have to be), and Wells feels obligated to terminate him. Jack must prevent Wells from interfering with his plans, and so must salvage the key of the time machine from him. So each is pursuing the other for the majority of the film.

While the well-known myth is the tear between McDowell and Warner, McDowell and Steenburgen beget a perfectly matched romance that becomes the secondary and ultimately a very critical portion of the yarn. The movie would have survived on the romance alone, but then it would have been very similar to the Christopher Reeve movie “Somewhere in Time” released the year after this movie that was primarily about romance, and relied more on fantasy than science fiction.

The climax of this movie builds until the ultimate showdown between McDowell and Warner that contains enough surprises that all but the most jaded of movie fans should obtain suspenseful (no, I’m not going to give away the ending impartial in case you haven’t seen the movie) . The first time I saw this movie I know I was surprised by the last 15 minutes or so.

The DVD is filled with a variety of extras that more than compose this movie worth the relatively paltry heed. Certainly the fable makes it a fitting companion to the earlier George Pal version with Rod Taylor taking the lead role.

Almost a 5-star rated movie, be prepared to seek it for McDowell’s wide-eyed innocent concept of fresh San Francisco as he chases about after someone who has no such innocence. One of the best stories location with a time move background, and well done by the lead actors.

I’ve impartial examined some of the fullsize screenshots over at AVS and this ‘blu-ray’ looks bad.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Gladiator! Click Here

It uses DNR and EE throughout.

DNR - In 2008, a lot of studios were using this process. Basically, it digitally ’smudges’ the image to screen any evidence of film-grain and, predictably, blu-rays with DNR eye like s–t. Most studios have stopped using DNR. But Paramount, apparently, is continuing to release this smudgy garbage and trying to pass it off as ‘high definition’

(If you want the DNR experience at home; you can bag the same carry out by smearing vaseline all over your TV status. Yes, that’s about what it looks like)

Buy,Download, Or Stream Gladiator! Click Here

EE - Edge Enhancement; in DVD days, when everyone was watching on diminutive televisions, studios would expend EE which basically messes with the colors a bit and adds incandescent white halos all around the edges (’enhances’ them) That might have made sense on a 10″ veil, but on a decent sized television it looks dreadful.

There should be a well-behaved release of this soon. Wait for that.

This review refers to the blu-ray recount quality only. The movie itself is an absolute classic. Unfortunately this blu-ray was a victim of mighty DNR and EE that has actually removed and distorted narrate detail. Here’s a beneficial example. At the beginning of the movie where we view Maximus as a General leading a final battle, you study an extraordinary wide shot of flying, flaming, arrows. It should glance astonishing, just? Irascible. The recount was DNR’d so badly that it actually removed arrows and the ones you can witness are a blurred mess! Absolutely awful. Don’t slay your money on this. Wait until they release a quality blu-ray because “this is not it!”

Almost Illustrious Untitled: The Bootleg Prick - Director’s Edition.

I’ve decided to review the Bootleg Slice of “Almost Well-known” as most of the other reviews are of the unique theatrical release.

This is a fantastic two-disc ( actually 3, more on this later ) DVD collection.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Almost Famous! Click Here

First, the packaging. We are presented with a brown tri-fold package, remarkable like the bootleg recordings of the seventies. Not a whole lot of artwork on the mask. Simply a microscopic photo of Kate Hudson (Penny Lane) .

The first tri-fold presents us with a incredible addition to this DVD dwelling. Included is a STILLWATER Music CD. This music CD is only available in this collection and features songs from the film as performed by Stillwater. Four of the tracks are co written by Nancy Wilson ( of Heart ) and Cameron Crowe ( the director ) . This runt bonus CD is enormous and very appropriate to the theme of the site.

I’ll jump now to DISC 2 of this position which is the Current Theatrical Version of “Almost Famed”. This is the academy award winning version that was released and it’s vast. The tale is well told and very fascinating.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Almost Famous! Click Here

DISC 1 is “Untitled: Almost Illustrious : The Bootleg Sever” which is not rated.

This version is a gift.

Cameron Crowe has taken the time to ( lovingly ) recut his film and include an additional 36 minutes of film. The addition of these precious minutes change the film but do not deminish it’s impact or watchability.

The additional 36 minutes add mostly to the character of Penny Lane ( Academy Award Nominee Kate Hudson ) and expand on her history.

Unlike many extended versions which add microscopic to character development, this version of “Almost Eminent” brings more insight and depth to nearly all characters.

The acting is outstanding, and it’s sure that the scenes not in the fresh release were lop strictly due to time constraints as the acting is true on.

This is a enormous cast. Kate Hudson is a stand out, as is newcomer Patrick Fugit. Billy Crudup is astonishing as well, this is the movie which should have made him a movie star. Jason Lee ( of “Chasing Amy” and other Kevin Smith films ) is hysterical and honest enough over the top to be believable. The movie, this version, rests soundly with Kate Hudson and Patrick Fugit.

I would contemplate, had this Bootleg version been released theatrically, then perhaps Kate Hudson would have actually won the Academy Award rahter than honest being nominated. She’s done a unbelievable job with this complex character.

The director’s commentary is priceless, remarkable like attending a film school seminar as conducted by Cameron Crowe.

This two disc location is a must have for any film fan. Even if you’ve got the modern DVD release ( rather than this special edition state ), this is calm more than worth the pick designate.

I would recommend this location. Strongly.

Best Regards,

turtlex

Thanks for reading.

There’s a moment early on in “Untitled”, Cameron Crowe’s ‘Bootleg’ Director’s Chop of “Almost Noted”, where rock critic Lester Bangs (Phillip Seymour Hoffman), in mid-rant, claims that the Box Tops’ “The Letter” says more in less than two minutes, without even trying, than Jethro Tull can say in hours, while trying their damndest. It got me thinking: why didn’t Crowe acquire his contain advice? Why did he buy a perfectly serviceable 122-minute movie that appeared to say everything, and turn it into a 162-minute movie? Well, I’ve seen “Untitled”. It blows up “Almost Distinguished”, makes it spectacle and spectacular, while never losing its intimate edge.

This is a case where more of a sterling thing doesn’t turn into too worthy of a genuine thing.

What do you pick up with “Untitled”? Well, more character. Backstories are fleshed out, relationships are better defined, and the humanity becomes more human. We peer William’s (Patrick Fugit) kleptomania, along with more examples of how his youth made him an outcast. We regain Penny Lane’s (Kate Hudson) nurturing side, explicitly portrayed. And we obtain a full-on leer of Jeff Bebe’s (Jason Lee) envy, why it started and how it manifests itself. A couple of fat scenes are added, most notably a radio position appearance that’s terribly comical, albeit irrelevant to the residence. But most of the additional footage comes from existing scenes being lengthened. More often than not, the point is clarified without tiresome the audience with tediousness.

The audio commentary begins with Cameron Crowe outlining the two paths they might go down. The first is the hemming-and-hawing path, where all the truths are covered up, in favour of banal stories and technical information. The second path is the heart-on-your-sleeve path, where all the inspirations and backstories are owned up to, where mistakes are agonized over, and the truth is king. If you’ve ever seen a Cameron Crowe movie, or heard the man order more than two sentences, you’ll know which path he chooses.

Crowe dominates the track. He’s joined by a couple of execs (or PA’s or something; they’re never really introduced and don’t say grand) . But the trusty treat of the track is the inclusion of one Mrs. Alice Crowe, Cameron’s mom (and Frances McDormand’s doppelganger) . Besides being a doting mother, and expeditiously to offer praise for her son, she also offers some precise insights into the genesis of the film. She appears to know the movie backwards and forwards, and acts as further proof of the film’s accuracy. It’s wonderful to ogle how noteworthy of the movie was really based on proper events. Every scene appears to launch with either Cameron or Alice being taken aback by the memories it invokes.

This is probably one of the best commentary tracks I’ve heard, for the inclusion, in equal measure, of technical information, on spot anecdotes, and passion.

Also included on Disc One is staunch life video footage of an interview with Lester Bangs. Lester’s vitriol is palpable, his menacing nature is colossal, but his warmth shines through. It’s an arresting tidbit, in that it offers further proof that Hoffman is one of the greatest actors working today, for he doesn’t stoop to imitating Lester. It’s more like channeling. Then, Cameron includes a list — complete with fully-represented album covers — of his top albums of 1973 (the year the film is area) . An though-provoking curiosity. Some of the works actually assure specific scenes from the film, which is kind of a shipshape trick. They’ve also attach together a “video” for the Stillwater song “Worship Comes and Goes”, which is basically a montage of behind-the-scenes moments from the Rock Camp the actors had to go through. More of this can bee seen on “B-Sides”, another video montage. Most consuming is the inclusion of seven of Crowe’s Rolling Stone articles from the era, printed in their entirety. It’s not hard to watch the nascent impart of Crowe the filmmaker vivid through these passion-filled pieces.

Disc Two has a lot less going for it. Its main feature is the fresh theatrical version of the movie. Also included is the full-length (15 minutes or so) Cleveland Concert, parts of which we observe in the movie. Despite the fact that Billy Crudup sometimes plays notes not actually in the songs, and that Jason Lee calm has to work on his between song banter, this footage shows unbiased how well the actors did in achieving their collective band persona. The music’s not that ample, but the vibe, captured by on-stage camera work, is authentic. The Production Notes allotment is basically the same essay you’ll regain in the box’s liner notes, only with additional information. There’s an though-provoking runt video moment, with Pete Droge and Elaine Summers singing “Little Time Blues” in a Hyatt House hotel room. It’s a moment speedy passed by in the sincere movie. But here you earn to hear the whole song, from William’s voyeuristic point-of-view, and it’s unbiased stunningly ravishing. You can also scroll through Crowe’s screenplay, perceive the cast and crew bios, and contemplate the theatrical trailer.

Disc Three is an audio CD. It’s got the six Stillwater songs, written variously by Nancy Wilson, Cameron Crowe, and Peter Frampton, among others. They’re not very sterling songs, and I’m not positive they fit the era they’re supposed to near from, but for an “Almost Renowned” completist, like myself, it’s well-organized to have them in all their (sub-) glory.

A lot of trouble was set aside into making this residence search for like a actual bootleg, the kind of clandestine minute document you’d capture up at a seedy portray store. I contemplate the search for and feel enhance the movie. Which was delicate helpful to start with.

At first I was like “um…no,” but then I continued watching because I rented the disks from Netflix and then I ended up laughing my ass off. This is a queer comedy explain. The timing is really weird, because it is improvised apparently. Now I can’t regain enough of the present. Larry David is impartial so…detestable sometimes it makes you die laughing. And the cast is impartial colossal too. They all play it off like pros. I have ordered the series now and can’t wait to look them all again. One episode was so comical I had to search for it like four times in a row. Maybe that says something queer about my creepy life that I’m watching Larry David so great, but c’est la vie! My advice is to behold the entire first season and recognize if it doesn’t sink into your skin. Larry David’s humor is not for everyone, but if you are luminous and kind of dorky sometimes with a rotten sense of humor you should like this.

I honest finished watching the season finale of the fourth season and I must say I am going to miss this exhibit. In the past few months I have watched all four seasons and this is the ONLY television exhibit that almost every time leaves me with a tall laugh at the demolish. This expose is radiant and so brilliantly simple and complex at the same time. Do yourself a favor, Notice this reveal, comprised of people who are at the top of their craft!

Both of these movies are extremely enthralling and obedient for the entire family. The Apple Dumpling Gang is better than its sequel due to the interactions of all of the major stars. Susan Clark is great as Dusty, and Bill Bixby is fabulous and believable as Donovan. The children do an expedient job and appear to have friendly on hide presence. I would recommend it for children of all ages, including adults who are young at heart.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Apple Dumpling Gang / The Apple Dumpling Gang Rides Again! Click Here

The Apple Dumpling Gang Rides Again is salubrious, but it relies more on slapstick than the first movie. You miss the parts of Dusty and Donovan and the children. It is also a puny confusing that Harry Morgan plays in both productions, but plays two separate characters. They could have said that he was the Justice of the Peace’s twin brother or a eye alike relative. Of course he always does an worthy performance in whatever portion he plays.

This grand DVD package combines two of Disney’s classic movies - The Apple Dumpling Gang and The Apple Dumpling Gang Rides Again. The movies document the careers of Amos Tucker (played by Tim Conway) and Theodore Ogelvie (Don Knotts), two of the most incompetent outlaws to paddle the Stale West.

In The Apple Dumpling Gang, cardsharp and conman Russel Donovan (Bill Bixby) is conned into taking on three children. But, when they involve Amos and Theodore in his life, things swiftly go from awful to worse.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Apple Dumpling Gang / The Apple Dumpling Gang Rides Again! Click Here

In The Apple Dumpling Gang Rides Again, Amos and Theodore advance out of retirement, proper in time to drop afoul of Marshal Woolly Bill Hitchcock (Kenneth Mars), who is distinct to discontinuance the Apple Dumpling Gang stupid in its tracks…literally. So, where can they veil?

Overall, I found these to be two ample movies. The Apple Dumpling Gang has a better defined situation, and Bill Bixby and Susan Clark do an noble job of providing a romantic, if not entirely serious, side to the movie. The Apple Dumpling Gang Rides Again is indeed more slapstick - Don Knotts and Tim Conway stole the first movie, and as such they are given free rein in this one - perhaps too considerable, as the movie does seem to have a mighty less cohesive region than the first.

But, no matter how you slit it, this is a grand DVD state, one that is distinct to please the family. As a matter of fact, beyond the two movies there is a colossal Goofy cartoon - Two Gun Goofy. Yeah, this is a gigantic DVD state, one that should be in the library of every family with young one around…or even those impartial young at heart. My family and I really enjoyed this status, and we highly recommend it to you and your family.

Here’s a movie for dog lovers, the elderly, children of divorce, FOBs (Friends of Birds), extinct Boy Scouts, people yearning for adventure, and anyone who has ever loved… and lost. Up is for everyone. It made me laugh out loud, and it made me bellow.

I opinion it would be tough for Up to match the emotional power of Wall-E. The two Pixar films are similar in their lack of dialogue in the first act, which helps deepen the emotional impact. Up begins with Carl, a terrified young boy star-struck by a noted explorer; and kookie Ellie, who has a similar obsession. The two kids become like a flash friends, and hiss to one day recede to Venezuela’s Paradise Falls. After getting married, they acquire their dream home and fix it up, hoping to contain it with children. Carl and Ellie’s life together from childhood through weak age is depicted, silently, with delicacy and subtlety. The first 15 minutes is like a celebration of a glad marriage, and you truly feel Carl’s wound when he is left alone. He sits slumped in his chair, talking to the house as if it is the missing Ellie.

When developers cessation in on Carl’s beloved home, he decides to fulfill his promise to Ellie and move to Paradise Falls. A venerable balloon vendor, Carl lifts his home with hundreds of intellectual balloons. Stowing away on the porch is Russell, a rotund, heroic kid trying to glean a scouting badge.

After landing in Paradise Falls, the primitive man and the runt boy are joined by a golden retriever named Dug who can talk with his collar, and a titanic rare bird that bonds with Russell (he names her “Kevin”) . Dug is priceless: spot-on for every dog that ever lived, including an obsession with squirrels. Through a series of conclude calls and adventures, the quartet vanquishes a villain, saving the day. And Russell earns his scouting badge.

In the process, Carl learns to let go of his murky mourning for Ellie, and live life again. When this happens, a truly magical thing happens. Before, Carl’s craggy face is gray and monochromatic. At the moment of his transformation, Carl’s face is awash in color, and he is surrounded by resplendent hues. It reminded me of The Wizard of Oz, when Dorothy steps out of her gray world and into a candy-colored Munchkinland. Carl, too, enters a whole recent world.

Up is a deeply emotional film, bulky of truth. It’s the year’s best film. Acquire another triumph for Pixar.

Someday, Pixar is going to do it — they’re going to construct an emotionally uninspiring, lackluster provocative movie. But in the meantime, they’re tranquil putting out palatable lively movies like “Up,” which defies the usual kid-movie conventions by starring a crotchety old-fashioned man. It’s a charming, fun microscopic adventure yarn with flying dogs and balloon-powered houses, but underlying it is a bittersweet itsy-bitsy fable about loss and treasure.

As a child, the afraid Carl Fredricksen bonded with the oddball Ellie over their shared treasure of adventure, the explorer Charles Muntz, and Paradise Falls. They later married, depart into their “clubhouse” together, and lived a long, sadly childless life together. When Ellie died, she had never fulfilled her dream of going to Paradise Falls.

Now crotchety, alone and harassed by a sincere estate developer, Carl (Ed Asner) is finally ordered to a retirement home. But he isn’t going quietly — instead he attaches thousands of balloons to his house and floats it away toward South America. But he accidentally takes an interested, naive Wilderness Explorer (a thinly-veiled Boy Scout) named Russell (Jordan Nagai) along for the swagger. Terrible kid was fair trying to gain an “assisting the elderly” badge.

And the jungle stir to Paradise Falls turns out to have some surprising obstacles: a mountainous emulike bird that Russell names Kevin, a talking dog named Dug (”I am jumping on you, bird!”), and a mysterious primitive man who lives deep in the heart of the jungle. Turns out the passe guy is very familiar to Carl — and to acquire Kevin, he’s willing to sacrifice Carl and Russell.

Industry experts were babbling about how “Up” wouldn’t be as favorite as the previous Pixar movies, because the protagonist is basically a crusty used coot. Well, shows what they know. It ended up becoming one of those classic movies that somehow appeals to all ages — while the humor and action appeal to children, adults can devour Carl’s admire for his lost wife, and his stupid realization that he’s clinging to the past.

In fact, the first ten minutes are some of the most heart-tugging, quietly bittersweet scenes I’ve seen in a long time. Without a word, they explain all the ups and downs of a realistic marriage — joys, sorrows (Ellie’s inability to have children), growing musty together, and finally loss.

But it’s not a depressing movie by any stretch — in fact, it’s like a childhood fantasy near to life, complete with a floating house suspended on hundreds of balloons, and biplanes piloted by a talking dog army.. Plenty of astronomical dialogue (”Do you want to play a game? It’s called Behold Who Can Go the Longest Without Saying Anything.” “Icy! My mom loves that game!”) and an action-packed climax in an feeble airship.

Ed Asner is absolutely perfect as ubergrouch Carl — crotchety, grumpy, and obvious to fulfill his wife’s lifelong dream, but gradually realizing he’s clinging to the past. Nagai is equally perfect as Carl’s polar opposite: a naive, chattery Scout who is clear to reunite Kevin with her baby chicks. And the utterly adorable Dug and the other dogs deserve special gape. These creatures are utterly hilarious — they talk (”I hid under your porch because I appreciate you”) and act the device dogs would if they talked. Three words: cone of shame.

The two-disc edition is going to have some very nice extras, but once again people with regular-def DVDs are going to rep shafted because the Blu-ray edition will have a bunch of irregular stuff. Grr. As for this one, there’s a digital copy, the director’s audio commentary, kinda-alternate-ending “The Many Endings of Muntz,” and the documentary “Adventure Is Out There” about the research for this movie.

There are also a pair of adorable though-provoking shorts. “Partly Cloudy” has a much-abused stork having to tell potentially injurious baby creatures from a kind but clueless cloud. And “Dug’s Special Mission” is a sort of backstory for the adorable Dug, explaining what the heck he was doing before he met up with Carl and Russell.

“Up” continues Pixar’s running tally of gloriously exciting, emotionally layered movies that the entire family can indulge in. With that, I have only one more thing to say… SQUIRREL!

First off, let me say that several people have reviewed this item incorrectly. The item above is NOT the AUDIO DVD of the Rumours album (DVD-A) . The Audio DVD is a completely different experience than the item you are looking at. This item is a regular “movie” visual-type DVD that includes interviews with the band and that breaks down the music peice by peice. It’s been on TV before…and, it’s been available on VHS for quite a long time. With that said…

Being a colossal FM and Stevie fan, I purchased this on DVD hoping that it might have additional footage or features that were not on the VHS (which, of course I have already) . Well sadly, there is nothing additional on the DVD. However, this is peaceful such a Vast thing to have. It’s absolutely wonderful to listen to Stevie, alone at her candlelit piano, singing “Dreams”. It makes me bellow because it’s so attractive. That 30 seconds of video ALONE is worth the occupy trace. It’s fabulous to hear the music “taken apart” at the soundboard, instrument by instrument, sound by sound, snort by mumble. It really helps you understand and be pleased the painstaking process this was for all of them. If you’ve never seen it, you really should pick it - on either format - DVD or VHS - it really makes no contrast.

The Good

Ahh, turmoil makes for apt albums, but who didn’t know that’s what Rumours was all about. It’s aloof quite captivating to hear Fleetwood Mac suppose the stories themselves of how the songs that made up their landmark album came together. Why “Rhiannon” is included here is beyond me, it wasn’t even on that album. The song was released when Buckingham and Nicks joint the group one album prior, so there’s some significance. It was Christine that came up with the corpulent riff that dominates “You Do Loving Fun”, but together with Lindsey they made a masterpiece. Between a classic live performance of the song, John and Christine discuss their stunned relationship during the recording. Stevie Nicks reveals that she wrote “Dreams” in Sly Stones bed, and how Lindsey always had a procedure to obtain her songs sound sizable, when he was cheerful with her. The Scottish/Irish folk influenced “Second Hand News” was a Buckingham contribution. He reveals that he was listening to the Bee Gee’s “Jive Talking” at the time he wrote it. Mick Fleetwood offers an fascinating runt tidbit here; he wasn’t the exclusive man out when it came to dysfunctional relationship. Not only were Lindsey and Stevie & John and Christine on the skid, he was dealing with his best friend sleeping with his wife. They’re unexcited friends today though.

Mick breaks down the limited pieces that effect up “Go Your Bear Plan” in the studio to prove how it all comes together. Lindsey demonstrates on an acoustic guitar how indispensable the background riff to the song was. Some astronomical stories arrive out of the discussion of “Never Going Attend Again”. Stevie and Christine always had each other to turn to, John emphasizes how drug consume was well-liked spot succor then, but realizes how unpleasant they were, and the producers train a hilarious epic of mishandled drugs. You’ve gotta adore Lindsey’s afro in the video for “Don’t Finish”. The band goes into how the song is connected to President Clinton. The producer states that he felt “Songbird” sounded like a concert hall type song, so they booked a concert hall to report it. They status up a piano with flowers and champagne for Christine to play away. They include performance footage in which I can’t sing if it’s Christine encourage then or Christine today. She really hasn’t stale a bit. The DVD covers the song “Silver Springs” which didn’t actually appear on the album. The producers said they had to carve it due to time state. There’s a live performance of “The Chain” from the eighties, circa Lindsey’s humorous hat days. The group reveals that the song was changed at the last miniature to acquire it work.
