I’m talking about the subtitled version here. Of course, I may be a little biased (seeing it was one of my first experiences with anime, I was 10 when I saw it, and Katsuhiro Otomo did the character design), but Harmegedon wasn’t nearly as bad as everyone claims it is. The animation was excellent for the time period and is effective at creating a moody atmosphere. We’re talking about the early eighties here, and it still looks better than many productions today. The plot, if somewhat familiar (”Troubled, introverted teen gains telekinetic powers”), is fair if a little silly at parts, and is not so far removed from other Japanese productions. Taro Rin, one of the best directors in anime, does his job well. So what’s wrong? Well, the character development (except for Jo) was a bit wanting. The ending was somewhat predictable and wrapped up in a bow. The other espers were mostly stereotypes (the wise old yogi, the tall, dark, silent Native American, the 10-year-old black American crimelord) and weren’t at all developed, excepting, perhaps, for a small degree, Sonny Lynx (how come so many American gangsters are named Lynx in anime?). Other than that, there’s not much to complain about. These people who say it’s the worst anime they’ve ever seen probably haven’t seen much. Harmegedon could’ve been a LOT worse.

I enjoyed this film emensely. Its a great science fiction story from Kazumu Hirai’s very long and fabled series of Genma Wars novels. The direction from Rintaro in this film is excelent and visionary. Katsuhiro Otomo’s character designs also give this film a nice touch. Hamragedon is the americanized name though. Its real name is The Battle With Genma (or perhaps simply Genma Wars). This film was highly influential in Japan, especially for its realism, and it is considered a landmark among many otaku and those in the industry. The anime tv series Genma Wars is also based on the same novels (and manga by Shotaro Ishinomori), which I also liked dispite extremely low budgeted animation. If only that series had the animation and direction of this film. This special edition DVD is also a very nice package, with a good, remastered transfer, aswell as a very interesting commentary by Rintaro. Highly reccomended.

Though I am sure you already know what the show is about, here is a short summary of it:

Buy,Download, Or Stream Full House - The Complete Series Collection! Click Here

Full House first aired on ABC on September 22, 1987. Widower, “Danny” Danniel Ernest Tanner (Bob Saget) is left to raise his three daughters, “D.J.” Donna Jo Margaret Tanner (Candace Cameron) Stephanie Judith Tanner (Jodie Sweetin) and Michelle Elizabeth Tanner (Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen) after his wife, Pam, died in a car accident from a drunk driver. So Danny asks his best friend “Joey” Joseph Alvin Gladstone (Dave Coulier) and his brother in-law Jesse Cochran (John Stamos), but by season two his name changes to Jesse Katsopolis, to help raise his three girls. It’s like Three Men and a Baby, but instead it’s with raising three young girls. We watch these three dads raise these girls through the trials and errors of parenting. It’s not a normal family, but it’s a happy one, at least most of the time. Every family has it’s ups and downs.

Added to the bunch, Jesse falls in love with and ends up marrying “Becky” Rebecca Donaldson (Lori Laughlin) and they have twin boys Nicky and Alex (Dylan and Blake Tuomy-Wilhout). It sure is a “full house” with lots of love to go around until May 23, 1995 when the show came to an end, but the laughs live on in this DVD set.

This is a great buy! All 192 episodes from all 8 seasons are in this set. There are 16 slim DVD cases, 2 per season. And in each case there are 2 DVDs, making a total of 32 DVDs in the box to store in the Tanner family house.

The DVDs in this set are actually exactly the same as the DVDs sold in the individual season boxed sets. The slim covers for each 2 DVDs in the set, are also the exact same as the individual seasons sets slim cases.

What’s also great about the DVDs is that they don’t cut out any scenes, like they do when they are on TV. I have noticed many longer scenes that were cut off on TV. Also, the theme song isn’t cut either, until the 7th and 8th season, then the song is cut; otherwise every episode has the entire song play in the beginning.

If you are one who wants to know the lyrics to the theme song “Everywhere You Look,” here it is:

WHATEVER HAPPEND TO PREDICTABILITY

THE MILK-MAN, THE PAPERBOY, EVENING TV

HOW DID I GET TO LIVING HERE

SOMEBODY TELL ME PLEASE

THIS WHOLE WORLD CONFUSING ME

CLOUDS AS MEAN AS YOU’VE EVER SEEN

AIN’T A BIRD WHO KNOWS YOUR TUNE

THEN A LITTLE VOICE INSIDE YOU WHISPER

PLEASE DON’T SELL YOUR DREAMS SO SOON

EVERYWHERE YOU LOOK

EVERYWHERE YOU GO

THERE’S A HEART (THERE’S A HEART)

A HAND TO HOLD ONTO

EVERYWHERE YOU LOOK

EVERYWHERE THERE’S A PLACE

OF SOMEBODY WHO NEEDS YOU

EVERYWHERE YOU LOOK

WHEN YOU’RE LOST OUT THERE AND ALL ALONE

A LIGHT IS WAITING TO CARRY YOU HOME

EVERYWHERE YOU LOOK

EVERYWHERE YOU LOOK

I was listening to the song while writing down the lyrics. After several hearings of it, hopefully I got most of the lyrics right, but anyways, this is very close to the real words in the song.

It’s great to watch with the family and you never have to worry about leaving your child watch this show alone. It may not be a classic, but it sure entertains, but more for those young ones between the ages of 8-12. However, I have plenty of memories watching this show as a child, and I still enjoy it.

Every episode has a life lesson to be learned. I think many viewers can relate to the characters’ and their problems. I think that is why it stayed on TV for 8 years, even though I know the first season didn’t do too well, at least those other seasons behind it helped keep it on.

The languages spoken in the box set is just English. As for subtitles for the series, well, it varies. I did check each of the seasons, but not each DVD, what the subtitles are, but I’m pretty sure that the subtitles from disk one in season one is the same for disk four for season one and the same goes for the rest of the seasons. Please let me know if this is incorrect, or if I notice that it isn’t in any of the seasons and disks, then I’ll update this review. Anyways, seasons one through three have English, French, and Spanish subtitles. Seasons four through five have French and Spanish. Season six has no subtitles, and seasons seven through eight have just English subtitles for the hearing impaired. I’m not sure why the subtitles are not the same for each of the seasons.

Extras In This DVD Set:

Season 1

Disc 1: Bonus: Original Unaired Pilot, Commentary by Jeff Franklin (creator of the show) for episode 1: Our Very First Show

Disc 2: Bonus: House of Trivia Fast-Fact Version of The Miracle of Thanksgiving

Disc 4: Commentary by Jeff Franklin for episode 21: Mad Money

Season 2

Disc 4: Special Features: Top Ten Rules of Parenting and Full House Trivia Challenge

Season 3

Disc 4: Special Feature: Joey Impersonations: Season 3 Montage

Though the extra features in this set are great, I wish there were more.

If you are an avid “Full House” fan and/or a “child of the 90’s” who watched the show regularly while it was on the air, then chances are pretty good that you have been loyally collecting the DVD’s as they have been released season-by-season (at a remarkably quick pace, I might add). The individual sets have maintained a very reasonable selling price–no more than $22 or $23 at most places–so if you’ve grown up as a Tanner fan, then these have probably been tough to pass up.

Now, of course, if you’ve purchased the first 6 seasons and are patiently waiting for the last two, now you have another decision to make. Will you simply buy seasons 7 and 8 individually once they come out, or will you cave in to this deluxe full-series edition that has been penciled in for a November 2007 release? For some, it will be worth placing on your Christmas list this year, but for others, they will have no problem keeping the sets that they have already begun collecting. When these DVD companies go for the appealing “complete series” gift sets that are treated to more efficient packaging and (sometimes) garnished with some new special features, it’s basically a matter of preference–and in many cases, it’s tough to say no.

As for me, I am happy with the season sets that I have now, and I am looking forward to picking up the last two, so I don’t plan on shelling out over $200 for this (partly because I also have my eye on a similar release being planned for “Gilmore Girls”). However, if you love “Full House” and think you would enjoy owning this, then it looks like it might be a decent investment. Again, the specifics on the bonus features are still unknown, and although I personally don’t expect that they’ll add anything new for this collection, I suppose anything is possible. Some things to look for, though, include a fancy episode guide, cast photos from over the years, and things along those lines.

If you’re reading this, then you most likely know the premise of this show, but in short, it is a sweet, simple, and deliciously saccharine story of a widowed father who enlists in the help of his best friend and rock-n-rollin’ brother-in-law to help him raise his three daughters, who ranged from infancy to age 10 when the series premiered in 1987. You’ve got superachieving oldest daughter DJ, perky middle child Stephanie, and the ever-adorable (yet occasionally bratty) Michelle, the “baby of the family,” if you will, whose cute smile and professionally scripted catch phrases (think “You got it dude” and “Whoa baby”) made young actresses Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen a necessary staple in the show’s success.

Beyond the antics and plights of the growing Tanner kids, “Full House” maintained the attention of its target audience by producing sensitively written stories, with a twinge of humor and family-oriented messages sprinkled in each 30-minute episode. The three leading men (played by Bob Saget, John Stamos, and Dave Coulier) always worked well together, and as a slew of new characters gradually found their way into the plot, the charm was never lost.

Let’s face it, though–there are a lot of people who will gladly take any opportunity they can find to bash this show, and if you’ve watched any of the episodes, you can probably guess what they don’t like. The good news, however, is that given the impressive 8-year run that “Full House” achieved–as well as the plentiful television reruns and remarkable success in DVD sales–the critics’ opinion just doesn’t matter. If you have enjoyed this show, then the soupy plot threads and themes of family unity are probably right up your alley. There’s no reason to be ashamed of it; this was a great series, filled with memorable performances, a youthful spirit, and a genuine wholesomeness that you can proudly watch with the whole family. It’s nice that there is still something out there that children can see–something that can send out a positive message, reminding them that those common human values are still important.

With that being said, if the idea of having “Full House” immortalized on DVD sounds good to you, then you might want to save up for this set. Even if you’ve started buying the other sets and just like the idea of having this special edition collector’s item, then go ahead–start setting aside your money, or ask for it when Christmas rolls around (hard to believe that time of year is arriving once again). Either way, this is a show that is certainly worth remembering, and if you’re looking for something that satisfies your need for both humor and poignancy, there is perhaps nothing that fits the bill better than this!

Street of a Thousand Pleasures is basically one long excuse to ogle naked women, which it allows the viewer to do very well. The plot is very thin, an American (played by John Tull of Sassy Sue and Midnight Plowboy fame) saves the life of a sheik, who in gratitude reveals his harem, which is basically a hundred girls standing around naked. It seems like the film was originally intended for 3-D, as the camera zooms in and apparently up against breasts, belly buttons, etc. This film does have some simulated sex, with tons of frontal nudity. Despite this, it eventually gets tedious, Tull’s character wanders from one room to another looking at the girls, which he’s more interested in than actually having sex with the girls throwing themselves at him. Uschi Digard and Michelle Angelo are in the film briefly, the rest are a mix of cute and skanky.
Mondo Topless is your basic 60’s T&A, with no frontal nudity and not much in the way of plot to recommend it. The extras are good if sometimes a little odd, mostly 60’s nudie type stuff. Breast Orgy does have some full nudity although like Thousand Pleasures gets tedious after a while.

Is the guy who wrote the previous review dead or somethin’? How could looking at hundreds of different naked women ever be boring? Street of a Thousand Pleasures has some of the most beautiful women you’ll ever see in a movie, period. I was expecting Way Out Topless to be more like Russ Meyer’s Mondo Topless (a classic of the genre) so I was a little dissapointed but there’s plenty of vintage teasin’ action to be seen. Pasties and g-strings are the thing here, bub!

PLEASE NOTE: THIS REVIEW IS FOR THE BLU-RAY EDITION OF THE TRILOGY. AMAZON HAS A BAD HABIT OF COMBINING THESE REVIEWS UNDER THE DVD ONES AS WELL.

The “Star Trek” films with the original cast get a Blu-ray release with mixed results. I sprung for the trilogy because, frankly, outside of “Star Trek: The Undiscovered Country” these are the best films from the series of films produced with the original cast.

“The Wrath of Khan”, “The Search for Spock” and “The Voyage Home” are ALL in high definition contrary to a misinformed review here. They also all use too much Digital Noise Reduction to eliminate film grain which “softens” the image and eliminates much of the detail that Blu-ray is famous for. The result is that skin textures look waxy lacking detail. Edge enchancement has been used to “refocus” the image a bit (DNR is a technique used to manage film grain and video “noise” but when over used it robs the image of the very qualities that make Blu-ray outstanding. This is often done by digitally throwing the image out of foucs if I recall correctly and then using edge enhancement to refocus the image). “Wrath” looks better simply because it was restored while the other two aren’t).

Buy,Download, Or Stream Star Trek: Motion Picture Trilogy! Click Here

You probably won’t notice the difference unless you’re watching this on a monitor above 40 inches (and if you watch it with a projection system it will be REALLY noticeable). That said, all three films could look better but they still look better than the DVDs. Audio sounds terrific.

We get a lot of new extras as well as all the original stuff from the 2 disc DVDs except the text commentaries. “The Wrath of Khan” features a new commentary track with director Nicholas Meyer and Manny Coto (”Odyssey 5″, “Star Trek: Enterprise”, “24″). We also get “James Horner: Composing Genesis”, “Collecting Star Trek’s Movie Relics”, A Tribute to Richardo Montalban”, “Star Fleet Academy: The Mystery Behind Ceti Alpha VI” all in HD. We also get on all three films “Libary Computer” which is an interactive dictionary replacing in many respects the text commentary. Be aware that the pop up menu cannot be accessed when watching the film in “Libary Computer” mode.

“The Search for Spock” includes a new commentary track by long time “Next Generation” writer and “Battlestar Galatica” producer/writer Ronald D. Moore joined by “Trek” writer Michael Taylor. While they had nothing to do wih the film Moore an entertaining speaker discusses the differences between the films, the original series and “The Next Generation” with insight. “Spock: The Early Years”, “Star Trek and the Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame”, “Starfleet Academy: The Vulcan Katrar Transfer” are all presented in high def. Something I never noticed before while watching “Khan” or “Spock” is that one of the shots of the Genesis Planet is less than a perfect matte–you can see the stars behind the planet if you look carefully.

“The Voyage Home” features “Star Trek” writers Roberto orci and Alex Kurtzman in a brand new commentary track. “Pavel Scheko’s Screen Moments”, The Three Picture Saga”, “Star Trek for a Cause”, “Starfleet Academy: The Whale Probe” are all in HD. Also included is the “Libary Computer” again while all three films have “Star Trek I.Q.” available only via the Blu-ray Live option.

The packaging leaves something to be desired–I would have preferred each in its own slimline Blu-ray container. This is presented in a fold out style holder. The artwork is attractive enough but the slip case and fold out holder may not stand up well to wear and tear.

As far as the quality of the films themselves even with the small budgets for the films all three are well written with strong performances and direction. Unfortuntely we don’t get the “Director’s Special Edition” of “The Wrath of Khan” which has been digitally restored (the film was in fairly bad shape) and remastered. Grain is quite noticable throughout and it appears that DNR wasn’t used quite as heavily here as on the other two films (which were remastered first).

The script by Nicholas Meyer and Harve Bennett (although Jack Sowards is credited his script was one of five that was the basis of the final script along with writer/producer Harve Bennett) for “Khan”, by Bennett for “Spock” and with Nicholas Meyer for “Voyage Home” are all strong and feature the humor/action that was characteristic of some of the best episodes of the original series. Bennett never really got the credit (or the thank you from Roddenberry)for reviving the show and giving it a production that captured the best of Trek.

I’m looking forward to “Star Trek: The Motion Picture” receiving a deluxe Blu-ray transfer with the “Director’s Cut” included since it features the many visual effects that Wise wanted added as well as added him the luxury fine tuning the edit of the film (something he never had a chance to do because of the time constraints due to visual effects snafus and a drop dead premiere date).

So a mixed review–all three films look better than they did in their DVD incarnation but the transfers could be better. Audio sounds terrific and the extras are all good and welcome. The packaging though could be better but the price for this three disc set is pretty good. Hopefully “Star Trek: The Motion Picture” and “Star Trek: The Undiscovered” country will be available separately with the former including BOTH versions of the film and the latter including the “Director’s Extended Cut”.

Theres a lot of hating going on in this customer review section and I totally understand. Yes, this set is a blatant cash-in from Paramount, and yes they only ‘fully restored’ one of the films in the set. I read these same reviews and was a little leary of getting this set, but at $40, i figured thats not too bad for three great Trek films, one of which was guaranteed to look good.

So I took a risk and bought the set after reading elsewhere that the other transfers were actually pretty decent. So after watching all three films I can say that it was a pretty good purchase considering all thats included in the set.

As far as PQ is concerned, Wrath of Kahn is definitely the best. Great colors, great depth and great detail. Nothing like The Dark Night, but very respectable for a film of its age. I would give it a 9/10.

PQ on The Search For Spock fairs a little worse, but not by much, colors and detail are right up there with Kahn, though not quite reaching its quality. Its not OBVIOUS that II was restored and III was merely remastered, they are very close with the only real knock against III being its depth. The image is just slightly flatter than II, but again, not by much. 8.5/10

The only downside for me was The Voyage Home, which while decent on its own, is noticably lacking when compared to the first two. The colors are often muted and a bit hazy, and the depth is just not there. However some space shots look great, so its not terrible. 7/10

I watched this set on a 50″ 1080p plasma and really only noticed the DNR when I got right up to the screen otherwise it rarely bothered me.

So there you have it. Yes I would have liked Paramount to go all out on restoring these movies and Im sure they will someday, but IMO unless youre a videophile you’ll probably only notice it on STIV because III looks about as good as II. So if youre like me and are on the fence about whether or not to buy this set now or wait for Paramount to give a proper release a few years from now, I would say that while you might not be blown away by these transfers, theyre definitely respectable and far from as bad as the other reviews would have you believe. Plus, at $40 its a pretty good deal for what you get. Highly Recommended.

The second season of Stargate Atlantis begins on an adrenaline high with the third and final part of Season One’s “The Siege” and the action doesn’t end with the season opener. One character departs the show as a regular to make room for model, turned bad-boy, Jason Momoa, who plays Ronon Dex, a Wraith Runner; while a new group of the Atlantis Expedition arrives from Earth aboard the newest ship in the fleet, the Daedelus. This season, helped by the amazing chemistry of the cast, shows its maturity early with story lines that can be enjoyed as separate episodes while giving die-hard fans a well thought out story arc involving the Wraith, Ancients and other interesting discoveries from the Pegasus Galaxy.

Overall Atlantis has not only met fan’s expectations but has slowly exceeded its parent series, Stargate SG-1. If you’re a fan of the Stargate Movie and haven’t seen an episode of SG-1 I highly recommend buying the first nine seasons on DVD before jumping through the gate to Atlantis, however any fan of Sci-Fi would covet these Atlantis DVD sets.

Continuing straight forward from the cliffhanger at the end of Season 1, Stargate Atlantis continues to bring more elements from the Stargate universe and opens up new questions regarding the Wraith, the Genii, and the dark turn that Lt. Aiden Ford (played by Rainbow Sun Francks) has taken in this action-driven season. New elements are skillfully introduced with the addition of the Daedalus, a brand-new battlecruiser commanded by Col. Steven Caldwell (Mitch Pillegi). A runner named Ronon Dex (Jason Momoa) joins the cast of Atlantis along with former recurring cast member Paul McGillion as the loveable Scottsman Dr. Carson Beckett. As a strong fan of Stargate Atlantis, and Stargate SG-1, I can confidentally say that this series is well worth the time for any sci-fi fan or anyone with an interest in action programs.

This is the film adaptation of what might be the best graphic novel I`ve ever read. There are no words to describe how much I love the original comic book so I attended the North American premiere of Tekkon Kinkreet at the Moma in NY with high expectations.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Tekkon Kinkreet! Click Here

Not only did the movie not fail to meet them but in fact added exciting and unexpected layers to the story. I am an animator; I`m rarely satisfied with the technical aspects of most animated features but the production on Tekkon is flawless. The animation, character design, backgrounds and camera work are all top notch. The two main characters are rendered in all their complexity and the movie doesn’t shy away from the deep implications that the original story holds within its pages.

The movie is faithful to the comic book and the storyline is basically the same. However, Michael Arias and studio 4C were sometimes inventive, albeit in appropriate and creative ways. The new uniforms of the three warriors that Snake sends to kill Black and White are beautiful and reminiscent of a Moebius illustration- the final confrontation between Black and the two remaining warriors is held in the amusement park instead of the car-shelter site (which makes room for new dynamic shots) - but my favorite shift from the original material has to be the minotaur sequence. A lot of people complained that the movie is not as daring as Mind Game (studio 4C`s previous adventure into full length features) but I disagree - the animation gets very experimental during the minotaur scene showing the thin line between reality and Black’s violence saturated subconscious. I loved the way they communicated the internal struggle by using the graphic language of animation alone.

Overall, Mind Game’s pastiche of animation styles is probably more audacious but Tekkon more than compensates for it’s more rigorous style with incredibly strong characters (MG characters came off as a little wacky at times) and a story that is so good that it hurts. If your eyes are not wet by the time Black and White get separated you are a soul-less fiend and you may want to consider a career in advertising.

I haven’t been so excited about an anime since Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence hit the theaters; it’s a shame that while it was one of the most important movies of the year in Japan, Tekkon Kinkreet got very limited distribution in Europe and in the US - so do yourself a favor and buy this DVD!

If you like Akira (Special Edition) or Ghost in the Shell, and thought they were true masterpieces despite their ambiguous style of storytelling, then you’ll love Tekkon Kinkreet. It’s as true an anime as there ever was: it follows its own style of storytelling, it has interesting, even endearing characters, and the art is just beautiful. It sits comfortably next to some of the best anime ever to come to the States.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Tekkon Kinkreet! Click Here

Tekkon Kinkreet follows two young boys, known around the city as the Cats, but to each other they are Black and White. Black is a brooding, violent youngster with a gift for taking pain and dishing it out. White is, simply, special; he’s empathic, enjoys life, and has a deep sense of when things aren’t right. He also seems to be magically gifted. That gift, however, has left White an innocent boy, incapable of growing up and acting his age; that’s why Black feels obligated to protect the young boy, and the that means eliminating any possible threat to him and White, as well as the city in which they live. Thus, these two have a few enemies, including the Yakuza, some strange and powerful alien assassins, and a mysterious creature known by the youth in the city as the “Minotaur.” All the while, the two are continually robbing and mugging those within their city so that they can achieve White’s dream of living in a house on a beach….

Yeah, interesting, I know. But what makes the story of Tekkon Kinkreet that much better is the surreality of the whole thing. It doesn’t try to explain much; it doesn’t have to. White and Black can run at tremendous speeds and leap ten feet into the air; aliens exist; and a boy has the power to link himself mentally to his best friend. Why? Because they do…. And all the while, it’s as fantastically believable as a well told fantasy novel.

Outside of that, the art and characters of Tekkon Kinkreet helps to drive the story along. The settings contains so much detail that it’s impossible to find anything. If this was a “Where’s Waldo” drawing, you’d never find him. The character art is also beautiful, reminiscent of the short sequence in Kill Bill, Volume 1.

Now, for the one drawback (which many older anime fans wouldn’t even consider as a drawback): this will be a very difficult anime for a new-comer to get into. The story isn’t difficult to follow, but it can be confusing and the ending leaves a lot unanswered, as is the wont of anime. Still, though, if you have some experience with anime, then you won’t be disappointed. The art is beautiful, the story is engaging, and the characters are endearing. I’d rate it higher if it were possible. Tekkon Kinkreet is definitely one of the best anime ever.

This was a good movie from Maverick. Some movies from Maverick are iffy, but this one was well acted and had a good story. The lead actress is very attractive and does a good job. The story is set in England and Russia, and moves back and forth nicely between the two. It has some explicit content involving a strip club and other sexual situations. This was all nicely done and erotic. All in all a good film if you want to see a B movie with sex, and violence, yet a compelling story to prop it up.

This was a surprise. I wasn’r expecting much with this movie, so was pleasantly surprised with how well this movie was done. First things first, If you are looking for an exploitation movie, this ain’t it. There are a couple of fairly brief shower scenes, and a fairly tame scene of sex between two women, but the overall focus was kept on the story itself. I have seen other work by Jag Mundra on the past, and this was probably one of the better ones. Worth a look for sure. Charlie S.

The Trouble With Girls was a pleasant change of pace for Elvis, who had long grown weary of the typical formula flicks, regardless of how well they did at the box office.

The light comedy had a good story to it, and the 1927 setting was great. Elvis is the manager of the traveling Chautauqua, and he blends in well with the rest of the performers, highlighted by Vincent Price, Dabney Coleman and John Carradine.

It was nice to see the movie not centered totally around Elvis’ singing, although his rendition of “Swing Down Sweet Chariot” was really motivating. “Clean up Your Own Back Yard” was a great song as well, especially when compared to some stinkers he had done in recent movies.

I read where they were originally going to call the movie “The Chautauqua.” They should have done so. I agree with another reviewer who said “The Trouble With Girls,” is a deceiving title, making people think it’s an “Elvis” movie. This has indeed made it one of his more forgotten and underappreciated efforts. Elvis was in the best physical shape of his life, having come off of the filming of his comeback special, he obviously enjoyed making a different type of movie, and he put more effort into it knowing that his comeback to the stage was just over the horizon once he finished filming “Change of Habit.”

And we even see Elvis smoking a cigar. To my knowledge, that is the only time Elvis was seen smoking on screen. Definitely a change from his squeaky clean image from the “Blue Hawaii” days.

See this movie. It won’t win any awards, but it lets Elvis fans see him in a different light as his movie career came to an end.

Forget the stupid title (which has nothing to do with the story) and enjoy one of Elvis Presley’s best movies. A recent Los Angeles Times review ranked this 1969 effort as a “turkey” along the lines of “Harum Scarum” and “Spinout.” The reviewer obviously did not see this charming 1920s period piece, which is remarkably different from most Elvis films. Highly recommended.

As fans of DOCTOR WHO will tell you, DR. WHO AND THE DALEKS with Peter Cushing is less about DOCTOR WHO than the DALEKS - and that’s exactly how it should be. A vivid full color, widescreen adpatation of Terry Nations script THE MUTANTS (commonly known now as THE DALEKS) for the DOCTOR WHO television series, this is a bright and entertaining film that manages to skirt the line of family fun with the stark horror of the Daleks. A clean and clear transfer of the film, coupled with solid sound and excellent menus is accented with a host of speical features - the best of which is the entertaining feature length commentary with Jennie Linden (Barbara) and Roberta Tovey (Susan) moderated by Jonathan Sothcott which goes into the background of both the movie, the series it was based from and all the actors involved. Not to be missed. For fans of the series, DR. WHO AND THE DALEKS is a must for any collection, for the casual viewer, it’s a timeless piece of sound and fury which will not disappoint.

This 1965 film and it’s 1966 sequel “Daleks-Invasion Earth 2150 A.D.”. Were made cheaply and quickly to capitilise on the immense success the Daleks were having on the kids of Britain at that time.(Myself included)

You could buy Dalek toys, sweets, wallpaper, Pyjamas and slippers, sounds familiar doesn’t it?

The reason the Doctor was changed to an eccentric “Professor type” from an Alien were for reasons of simplicity. At that time the Doctor Who TV show was not playing in as many countries as it is now, so no complicated and time consuming back story would be needed.

Plus it made audience identification that much easier with the various members of the cast.

(The only demographical group missing from this Tardis crew is an ethnic one, but it was the much more free sixties afterall.)

The producers, Subotsky and Rosenberg approached the BBC to see if they could use the TV show’s distinctive theme music and opening graphics, but due to the high price the Beeb wanted, that idea was dropped.

This film is an edited version of the first Dalek story shown on TV in 1963, with marginally better production values, and did much better at the box office then the more action orientated sequel.

As a long time Doctor Who fan,(Episode six,Dalek Invasion of Earth, December 1964 was my first episode.), I have to admit the Daleks in these films are a long way more visually impressive then they were on the TV show.

Happy memories, I can still remember my Mother taking me to the Pictures to see this Movie and the sequel.

Both films were made for a family audience, so get a big tub of popcorn, lower the lights, and watch them with your children!

(To see who the real stars are in this film notice the size of text “Doctor Who” get’s compared to “The Daleks” on my house poster picture!)

Who-Trek connections:~ The actor Barry Ingham who plays Alydon the Thal in this film, plays Danilo O’Dell in the second season Star Trek next generation story, Up the long ladder.
