Arctic Dinosaurs: Warm-Blooded Creatures of the Cretaceous is an episode of the award-winning public television series NOVA, now available on DVD. A field expedition sets out Alaska’s North Slope to search for the answer to a quandary: how did dinosaurs survive in the dark and frigid polar regions? Researchers dig a tunnel into the permafrost in order to collect dinosaur bones, an activity that carries its own perils, while other experts decipher the evidence in order to bring their hypotheses to life with CGI animation. Special features include printable materials for educators and described video for the visually impaired. An amazing fresh look at these remarkable ancient reptiles, perfect for school and public library DVD collections as well as for the enjoyment of dinosaur lovers everywhere. 56 minutes, closed captioned.

Fossil evidence shows that dinosaurs lived near the North Pole. This is a shocker given that it was assumed they were cold-blooded and need warmer environments. Few, if not no, reptiles live up there nowadays.

Though this work is designed for an educated audience, I think little children will love it, as they do most dinosaur-related stuff. This would be something that could be shown when a junior high or high school biology class is winding down for the holidays.

The computer graphics were amazing. They made dull bones truly come to life. I was amazed at how experts could look a bones that looked like rocks and say, “Oh yeah, that’s a leg bone of X species.”

In this work, they blased through rock with dynamite. I found that shocking as I would assume that could break fossils, rather than expose them. You know how Bart and Homer Simpson love seing things explode? I wonder if the documentary makers purposely included that footage to lure in that Simpson demoographic. Later, they do show the fine sweeping that I associate with digs.

The work is not diverse in terms of interviewees. Beside one South African woman of South Asian descent, everyone else is a majority male. Some say the pool of anthropologists is very diverse, but maybe that hasn’t happened for paleontologists (sp?) yet. The work was diverse in terms of university location. One man from a Melbourne institution spoke with an American accent and I found that surprising.

Buy,Download, Or Stream NOVA: Arctic Dinosaurs! Click Here

I love the way this work examined theories and put numerous factors on the table. This work questions the meteor-as-killer theory and some people may want to view this work just to hear that discussion. The work said, “Maybe there are degrees of cold-bloodedness and warm-bloodedness” and that really made a light in my head turn on. Still, some viewers may be disappointed at how many theories are presented with not much conclusion. This may feel like teasing to some.

I first saw South Pacific when it was released in 1958 at the age of 10, and remember being totally overwhelmed by the orchestrations, performances and photography. Over the years I have regularly heard the film trashed by critics and many members of the public, so I was curious to see how I would respond to it now when I recently bought the video. Well, maybe it’s just me, but I found the film as thrilling and beautiful as I did forty years ago. I agree with everyone else that it was a mistake to use those colored filters in many of the sequences, but the film still packs a heck of an emotional whallop, and I think along with The King and I stands out as the most successful of the Rogers and Hammerstein shows put on film. The weakest of the cast is John Kerr, who is somewhat wooden; however, Juanita Hall is magnificent as Bloody Mary (she will never be surpassed in the role she createwd on Braodway), Rossano Brazzi is thoroghly convincing as Emille DeBeque (even if he was dubbed by Giorgio Tozzi), and Mitzi Gaynor gives an unforgettable performance as Nelly Forbrush. Of all of the criticism one hears of South Pacific, to me the most puzzling is the bashing of Mitzi Gaynor, who to me is not only excellent but perfection in the role. I realize a lot of this probably stems from anger that Mary Martin didn’t get the role and is basically sour grapes, but the fact is Ms. Martin was too old to be convincing in 1958. The scenes in which Ms. Gaynor struggles with her small-town prejudices are moving and very real, and when Bloody Mary brings Liat to her to find Lieutenant Cable, who has been killed, it breaks one’s heart. Anyway, the movie still knocks me out, even if that makes me, as Nelly Forbrush calls herself, a “knucklehead.” The incredible photography, gorgeous music, and theme of the need to triumph over bigotry which is still so relevant even today, makes this film a 5-star winner in my book. As trite as it sounds, “They don’t make ‘em like that anymore!”

This brand new edition of SOUTH PACIFIC is a must for all fans of the beloved Rodgers and Hammerstein classic. Based on characters and segments from James Michener’s “Tales of the South Pacific”, the story takes place on the islands during the tail-end of World War II. A pretty young nurse from Arkansas, Ensign Nellie Forbush (Mitzi Gaynor), falls in love with a wealthy French plantation owner Emile de Becque (Rossano Brazzi). Their relationship is tested when she discovers that he fathered two children with a now-dead Polynesian wife, and that he is wanted for the murder of a man in France. As Nellie confronts her own fears and prejudices, the handsome Lt. Joe Cable (John Kerr) falls helplessly in love with Bali Ha’i island beauty Liat (France Nuyen). Filling out the comedy in the tale are Bloody Mary (Juanita Hall), the wheeler-dealer with a heart of pure gold; and Luther Billis (Ray Walston), the tattooed leader of the beach-bound troops.

This DVD has been available for a while in the UK and Australia, and now finally gets a US release this November. The double-disc set includes two versions of the film: the original theatrical cut, and the rarely-seen Roadshow version which runs for 20 minutes longer with material that was subsequently trimmed for the film’s general theatrical release. Audio commentary is provided by Ted Chapin and Gerard Alessandrini (original theatrical cut); and Richard Barrios (Roadshow version).

Extra features will include the fascinating “60 Minutes” report by Diane Sawyer with James Michener returning to the islands and reuniting with people that served as the inspirations for characters in the book…including the real Bloody Mary. Vintage performances from the “General Foods” Rodgers & Hammerstein TV tribute (original Broadway leads Mary Martin and Ezio Pinza), two MovieTone news segments and the trailer.

First of all let’s get one thing straight, although the setting of Hart’s War is during World War II, this is not an action movie along the lines of Black Hawk Down or Saving Private Ryan, instead, it is more of a who-done-it type of drama film. With that out of the way, Hart’s War is about the experiences of Lt. Thomas Hart during his stay at a German POW camp (the Stalag 6A) in 1944, nearing the end of the war. Inside the compound he meets Col. William McNamara, the highest ranking officer in the place, even in prison, all US soldiers and officers still answer to McNamara, and the chain of command is expected to be followed. Things start to get out of hand after two black fighter pilots enter the camp, and when one of them is accused of murder, Hart is assigned to defend him in the court martial, if he fails, the man will face the firing squad.

The strongest part of Hart’s War is the performances, not just by the leads but also the supporting cast. Bruce Willis proves once again that he is a talented actor, not just another action star. His portrayal of McNamara was right on, it’s as if the role was tailored specifically for him, and in every scene he held a commanding presence. Colin Farrell also did a good job as Hart, compelling and measured, I really like how his character struggled between his allegiance as an officer and his duty to his client. Fairly new to Hollywood, he’s definitely someone to keep an eye out for in the future.

The script is another big plus for the movie, I found it ironic that these soldiers were sent to Europe to fight a war against the Nazi and the their so called ethnic cleansing, but instead, they are fighting their own racial prejudices in the POW camp. The hatred some of these enlisted men have for their fellow African American comrades was sometimes even more intense and pronounced than what they shown towards the enemies, Hart’s War was able to accurately illustrate the hardships blacks have to face in the war even among allies. Top it off with excellent dialogues, Hart’s War is one solid drama.

The only problem I had with the movie was the ending, it’s not bad, just a little unexpected, but not enough to ruin the whole experience for me. I strongly recommend Hart’s War to anyone who wants a little change of pace from all the big action war films we’ve had (and are going to have in the upcoming months,) I sure wasn’t disappointed.

World War II is rapidly winding down. Soldiers on both sides realize that Germany will surrender in the near future. Lt. Thomas Hart (Colin Farrell) has the misfortune to be captured by the Germans and sent to Stalig 17. He is greeted by Col. William McNamara (Bruce Willis), a third generation West Point career
officer. The latter is not pleased at sitting out the remaining time of the war as a P.O.W. Col. McNamara has a family tradition to uphold, and the gods of the universe are not cooperating. Someone with a more prudent disposition might decide to patiently wait to be liberated. The Colonel, though, is not so inclined and has every intention to rebel at every chance he gets. Marcel Iures is splendidly cast as the German P.O.W. commandant, Col. Werner Wisser, who loves American Jazz, and seems totally disinterested in Nazi ideology. He has a job to do, and merely desires to stay out of harm’s way. There is no sense in needlessly irritating the inevitable winners of the war. The German officer is more than willing to cut the Americans some slack as long as they sufficiently abide by the camp’s rules. Iure’s character is indispensable to the plot, and his performance should be remember when it’s time for the Oscar nominations.

The addition of two Afro-American pilots disrupts the harmony of the camp. The racist attitudes of a few white prisoners threatens to endanger the safety of everyone. One of these racists is murdered and this is when the story really takes off. Terrence Dashon Howard admirably portrays the black pilot suspected of the
crime. It is Lt. Hart’s duty to defend him in less than ideal circumstances. Is the black officer guilty? If not, why is he being framed, and by whom? Director Gregory Hoblit puts together an intelligent movie highlighting the racism of that period. Some viewers may be surprised to learn that Nazis were often better treated by white Americans than the blacks who served in their own military. The film has some weaknesses, but still is worth seeing. There’s enough here to give it four and a half stars.

My husband doesn’t even like musicals, but he likes this one!

What could be better than singing by Howard Keel and Jane Powell? The music is great, the colors bright and vivid, the choreography wonderful.

To our modern eyes, the story of this 1954 musical seems a little outdated–the attitudes towards women are somewhat distasteful. Howard Keel’s character, Adam, needs someone to clean and cook for his household of 6 wild brothers, so he just goes into town and “acquires” a wife, poor Millie (Jane Powell) who has no idea what is in store for her.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Seven Brides for Seven Brothers! Click Here

When the boys decide they need wives, they just go into town, kidnap a batch of girls, beat the girls’ boyfriends insensible, and spend the winter snowbound with the girls who miraculously fall in love with them. OK, well then…

But, the charm of this musical somehow allows us to overlook all of this, and Millie’s sheer spunkiness in trying to tame these wild men redeems them somehow. So everyone learns his lesson and all ends well.

This musical is also interesting in that it showcases several young talents who became better known in later years: The character of Dorcas is played by Julie Newmeyer (a young Julie Newmar, Catwoman in the TV series Batman in later years), Russ Tamblyn (future star of West Side Story), and Ruta Kilmonis (later semi-celebrity Ruta Lee). Even in this very early outing, Julie Newmar’s distinctive voice and looks make her stand out.

The director, Stanley Donen, directed some of the best musicals in the 50s, including Damn Yankees, Singing in the Rain, Kismet (uncredited), and Royal Wedding. Inexplicably, in his later career, he directed such bombs as Saturn 3 (1980).

A “sleeper” when it was released in 1954, “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers” is still one of the freshest musicals ever made. With a pretty, spirited score by Gene de Paul and Johnny Mercer and rambunctious but carefully-controlled choreography by Michael Kidd, this modestly-budgeted movie surprised everyone by becoming an enormous hit, even being nominated for Best Picture. Based on a short story by Stephen Vncent Benet called “Sobbin’ Women” (which was the film’s working title), it tells the story of a frontier woman Millie (Jane Powell) courted by a backwoodsman Adam (Howard Keel). He takes her off to his rustic home, neglecting to tell her he has six untamed brothers to care for. Undaunted, Millie sets about domesticating the household, complete with readings from classical history, including the story of the Sabine women, which the boys take to heart. The musical was filmed in AnscoColor and CinemaScope, and the wide screen is utilized to great effect, especially in the barn-raising sequence. Letter-box is mandatory. DePaul and Mercer wrote some effective songs (”Wonderful Day”, “When You’re in Love”, “Sobbin’ Women”) and the numbers blend into the story perfectly under Stanley Donen’s smooth direction. Dresden-doll coloratura Powell and strapping baritone Keel make such an attractive couple it’s odd M~G~M never co-starred them again. (Evidently a musical version of “Robin Hood” never got past the drawing board.) The brothers include New York City Ballet star Jacques d’Amboise and a non-dancer, the mysterious Jeff Richards, who may have been the handsomest man ever to appear on the screen, Rock Hudson notwithstanding. Among the brides is Julie Newmar, who a couple of seasons later would stupefy Broadway in “Li’l Abner”.Bright and pleasantly aggressive, “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers” is right up there with Metro’s best musicals.

“If you’re in doubt about angels being real…” So began the catchy, unforgettable theme from TV’s Gidget. After Sandra Dee’s trio of Gidget beach movies, Sally Field took the role and made it her own. This series was unsurpassed, made at a time when sitcom did not simply mean jokefest. It’s not all laughs; there’s real heart, teenage angst and working out of relationships. The college prof dad and shrink brother in law give ample space for working in the ‘fifties fetish with psychology. The characters click; the chemistry’s magic.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Gidget - The Complete Series! Click Here

Now with The Flying Nun also soaring onto DVD, at last Sally Field can be seen as the talent she is. She doesn’t have to play “serious” roles to shine. Light sitcoms like Field’s and Patty Duke’s were often dismissed by critics despite being wildly popular. The 32 episodes on these four discs may enable a reappraisement, and with the entire series on DVD, fans will have a Field day.

The 1965 ABC-Screen Gems sitcom of GIDGET, based on the the adventures of author Frederick Kohner’s real-life daughter (which had already formed the basis for the 1959 Sandra Dee movie “Gidget” and a slew of sequels). It launched the career of promising up-and-coming actress Sally Field, whose heroine became the quintessential picture of 1960s wholesomeness and girl-next-door charm.

Frances Lawrence, known as Gidget to her family and friends, spends every spare moment on the beach at Malibu where she surfs and enjoys harebrained adventures, though her married sister Anne loves to interfere with Gidget’s plans. GIDGET suffered from poor ratings and only lasted for one full season before being shelved, though the show did generate some interest during summer re-runs. However, a second season could not be filmed due to Sally Field having been all but signed to do “The Flying Nun”, and GIDGET was axed altogether.

The series remains pleasant and enjoyable viewing with fine performances from the entire cast, particularly Don Porter (”Private Secretary”) as Gidget’s widowed father Russ and Lynette Winter (”The Parent Trap”) as Gidget’s shy best friend Larue. Sally Field, in her first big starring vehicle, is perky, appealing and everything else we expect Gidget to be. The rest of the cast includes Betty Conner, Pete Duel and Michael Nader. Keep an eye out for several guest stars including Richard Dreyfuss, Bonnie Franklin, Barbara Hershey and Henry Jaglom.

Sony Pictures has released the entire series of GIDGET in this well-presented boxset, joining their other outstanding season-sets of “Bewitched”, “The Flying Nun” and “I Dream of Jeannie”.

Extras include the rarely-seen original pilot episode as well as a brand-new retrospective interview with Sally Field.

This movie was one of my favorites growing up, and everyone around me that I have shared it with has fallen in love with it. The story is about the adventurous Princess Irene. The princess is off playing in the woods when she is attacked by goblins pets. She is saved by a mining boy named Curty. They quickly become friends and get into a lot of trouble. The goblins attack and Irene must rely on her own magic to save Curty, and in turn the entire kingdom. (Yes the story has a happy ending ^^ )

The story teaches the importance of believing in yourself, friendship, not keeping things inside, and the power of a song. I would recommend this story to any child boy or girl. However, there are a few scary parts in this movie, nothing bad compared to what kids are exposed to these days but I would advise that the parents sit and watch the movie with that child the first time through just in case it doesn’t met that parent’s pretence. (There is a spot where the ground starting moving at the beginning and a hand comes out and grabs her. Of course she gets away! If your child can handle the movie The Black Cauldron, then this movie is fine!)

One warning to parents, this movie becomes a quick favorite, so I would advise ear plugs because the movie has been known to be played so a lot.

I would recommend this to any child; I hope this review has been helpful!

This is a good movie and the Goblin’s are not scary to kids…just funny. It is a little lengthy, but you certainly get your money’s worth of drama, excellent cartoonage and music.

The one-note song of evolution has dominated the origins scene so long that evolutionists no longer think they have to answer tough questions that challenge the theory. These fine videos asked logical, probing questions that need to be addressed, not simply dismissed. When we could have a symphony of ideas being discussed and debated, why do we continue to settle for the monotony of the “Our way or the highway” attitude of so many evolutionists? Science should be about challenge, discovery and growth, not stagnation and intellectual bigotry.

I am an educator with a Masters in Education as is my wife. We found these riveting. We have watched them over and over and shared them with a number of others. I cannot remember my favorite lines and our set is currently loaned out, but suffice it to say that we highly recommend these.

If you know nothing about Intelligent Design these are a great starting point. We have found that too many people have discounted this movement and lumped it into the Creationist camp without doing their homework.

This is not a Creationist viewpoint, but it certainly points out that evolution as a theory is archaic (remember that a naturalist with little experience postulated the theory 150 years ago. The theory has always been embroiled in controversey and as we have deepened our knowledge evolution has had to be modified so that now it is an idea with many defectors and factions.

ID asks questions which are cogent and salient even if the demagogues of evolution find them provocative. Anyone who refuses to look at the challenges to there positon or beliefs must question the truth of them.

We found the series very enjoyable and think you will as well.

“I Am Legend” is not a film that sticks closely to it’s source material. While that is it’s biggest flaw, it is also where it shines. If you ha told me two years ago that I’d get misty-eyed watching Will Smith sing “Three Little Birds” in a big budget motion picture I’d have laughed myself silly, but this adaptation of Richard Mathson’s untouchable novel that -while itself being a vampire story- inspired the entire zombie film genre as we know it takes the story we all know whether we’ve read the book or not and turns it into an exceptionally personal affair for all of us. One man. One dog. A familiar metropolis deserted by day, but crawling with death by nightfall. This is our setting and it’s one that never gets old for me.

Buy,Download, Or Stream I Am Legend! Click Here

The plague that wipes out Robert Neville’s world is never fully explained, simply inferred to be the result of some sort of failed cure for cancer. Gone from the novel and the original Vincent Price classic, The Last Man on Earth, is the long struggle of Neville to save his ill daughter, his wife’s tranformation, and the shocking actions of the US government to contain the plague. What it left is simply one man, alone trying to maintain his sanity and hopelessly searching for a cure to a disease that has already wiped humanity off the face of the earth and left the “survivors” as rabid vampiric horrors. It’s sad, it’s pathetic, and it’s perfectly human. Will Smith has a penchant for picking terrible, schmaltzy films to star in, but no one can deny his talent and charisma as a leading man. Naturally, this is a film he must carry single-handedly and he does an awesome job of it; he’s dramatic, he’s relateable, and at times, he is funny. The humor is that of the dark and inappropriate kind, but in a world like his, that is all there is left.

The vampires/zombies/infected in this are all CG and more than a bit reminiscent of Gollum from The Lord of the Rings. I’m not a fan of these kind of effects when practical would have been more effective and was acutely aware of the fact that I watching computer-generated monsters, but they worked nonetheless. The infected prove to be terrifying foes for Neville to face, combining suprising cunning, inhuman strength, and impossible agility (hence the CG). Their only weakness is that sunlight kills them almost instantly. Neville plays a game of cat-and-mouse with them, gathering supplies, researching cure, and searching for survivors by day while making sure to get back to his fortified apartment before nightfall when the creatures come out to hunt for his hiding place. More than a few shades of 28 Days Later are present in this film, which is funny considering the book and it’s film offspring are largely what provided the elements of that film. So I guess the genre has officially come full circle now.

Buy,Download, Or Stream I Am Legend! Click Here

Ultimately, it’s the personal touches that make “I Am Legend” such a treat. Bob Marley provides both the soundtrack to Robert Neville’s day and the inspiration for his work, which is both ironic and uplifting at times. This may sound strange for a horror flick, but if you are a fan of Marley (himself a Legend) it makes all the sense in the world as you watch. Watching Neville attempt to interact with mannequins he’s set up as he returns the movies he rents (in alphabetical order, one at a time) and seeing him snap when one of the figures is moved is both amusing and, at times, intensely disturbing. When relief finally comes, Neville finds he has lost the ability to interact with other humans at all and is relegated to performing lines from “Shrek”, which is playing on his television at the time. The ending is a complete 180 from the book which is disappointing, but not as corny as it could have been. The novel I Am Legend has one of the most brilliant and darkly ironic endings ever put on paper, but director Francis Lawrence didn’t ruin it by go for the happy ending either. The result is a compromise between the pitch blackness of the book and the cloying cheese that many Will Smith fans love. It turns out a bittersweet and hopeful conclsion that should satisfy both while not thrilling either. But I left the theater with “Redemption Song” still ringing in my ears and a satisfied feeling. If only every movie could do that for me.

“I Am Legend” fails to adapt the book of the same name to the big screen, but succeeds in so many other ways. I can’t give it a perfect score, but I will give it a very hearty recommendation to fans of Will Smith, zombies, vampires, and Bob Marley. Enjoy.

I Am Legend can’t get a fair shake. This Will Smith-led production is the third attempt Hollywood has made to adapt the brilliant novel. None of the adaptions have truly done the novel justice (which is a shame), but this version has come the closest.

Here we have a brilliant beginning; footage of a scientist (played beautifully by Emma Thompson) saying humbly that she’s discovered a way to cure cancer. Fast forward a few years, and New York is utterly devoid of human life, save for Robert Neville (Will Smith). As the first half of the film progresses, we learn about his meager living, spending the day harvesting and trying to discover a cure, even now, while spending the night huddled in his protected home as creatures prowl.

His only companion, a wonderful dog named Sam, protects Neville as Neville protects him. They have a friendship based on loneliness and the human need for someone or something to hold onto. Sam is Neville’s only connection to the past and the only way to represent what little humanity is left, either in the world or Neville himself. This period in the movie is pitch perfect, puncuated by one or two terrifying sequences that instill genuine horror.

Unfortunately, the last half of the film deteriorates into an action movie that completely changes the meaning of the words “I Am Legend.” Don’t get me wrong, it’s mostly done really well. Constantine director Francis Lawrence has a good handle on the action and delivers some good scenes. But, it becomes muddled and veers off completely from the novel. My biggest complaint, though, is the use of CGI. Instead of using real flesh and blood actors, all of the creatures are created with CG and they look incredibly fake when lined up next to real people. In the beginning, it’s not a problem but as you see more of them (and you will) it’s glaringly obvious. And annoying.

All of this I was expecting going in, though. Considering that the film was co-written by Akiva Goldsman who also wrote I, Robot, I knew this version would stray from the source material just as I, Robot did. As a movie, it’s genuinely thrilling and creates the perfect balance of tension and action through most of its entirety. And, surprisingly, Will Smith shows that he’s a really good actor as he has to not only tackle many conflicting emotions during the two hour run time but he also has to do so without having much of anyone to react to. Spending a good hour or so without another single actor for Will Smith to work with was a gamble and it paid off.

Your enjoyment of the film is entirely based on what you bring to the table. If you’re coming to this film expecting to see the book come to life you’ll be sorely disappointed. However, if you’re looking for a good action movie that actually has a good story and a human aspect, you’ll be hard-pressed to find one as thrilling recently.

The Good Things

*Excellent video/sound quality.

*This version of “Hellsing” has excellent imagery and graphics. It includes a lot of computer-generated-imagery, but none of it looks too hoaky or out-of-place. It is definately high quality animation.

*Excellent amount of bloody action. It is so fast and furious that it puts the old “Hellsing” show to shame. Also contains more comedy than before.

*Storyline is great. It is very very close to the original manga.

*Characters are splendid. Alucard is as psychotic as ever. Integra Hellsing is just as cold and vengeful as before, but not as mean. Saris Victoria is not as stiff, and is actually more clumsy and goofy; I think she is more fun to watch in this version. All other characters are lively, interesting, and great to watch.

*Some good lines throughout.

*Funky music (although I think the music in the old “Hellsing” show was better).

The Bad Things

*Not for the squeamish; contains lots of bloody violence, swearing, and suggestive material (rated TV-MA).

*A lot of stuff is packed into a single hour. As fast and condensed as everything is, it may be seen as overly compressed with not enough exposition.

The Other Things

*If you buy the single-disc version, you get little or no special features. The two-disc steelbook edition (although more expensive) includes a small wealth of interviews and textless credit scenes.

I thought a vampire action saga couldn’t get any better than “Hellsing”…until “Hellsing Ultimate” came out and blew it right out of the water. The “Ultimate” series has better animation quality, more action, livlier characters, more comedy, and above all, is much closer to the source material. It zips by pretty fast, but is wildly entertaining and never dull. Highly reccomended to anybody who enjoys anime or anything involving vampires.

the ultimate volumes are much better i think at least it goes further into the story the regular volume and alacurd seems more like a bad ass then in the regular

This set of tapes was very disappointing. The makers of these films need to sit down with a typical middle schooler or have some experienced teachers provide them some guidance. The producers clearly do not have a grasp of what engages a teenager (adults would be bored too). In the tapes, talking heads dominate . Many sections look like a slide show with text superimposed. The background music is positively awful and the narration is monotonous. Suggestions: Use clips from CSPAN with Congressmen going after it. Use more Senators, justices and Administrative workers and let them explain what they do. Find some entertaining personality to guide the viewer through the show and interview people instead of using a narrator’s voice-over. Use anecdotes. Loosen up. Have some fun. Inject some humor. I would agree that the tapes are fairly informative but if you are a teacher be forewarned: your students will lose interest very quickly.
