I fair got this second Star Blazers disc and I must say the presentation is far superb to the coarse production of disc 1. Disc 2 features nicely rendered menu screens, character bios, a trailer, and even a clip from the unusual Japanese version of Star Blazers (Yamato) . However, the characterize quality of the program itself is comprable to the first disc — somewhat grainy, but probably slightly better than a VHS tape. Also effect that this disc contains only four episodes of the series (eps. 6 - 9), while Section 1 contained five. Collected, if you were reasonably pleased with The Quest for Iscandar Section 1, don’t hesitate to occupy Fragment 2.

Star Blazers: The Quest for Iscandar Share II, contains episodes 6-9 (out of 26) of the first season of the cult-favorite Americanized Japanese Anime series from the early 1980’s.

For the uninitiated, here’s a rundown of the dwelling. In 2199 Earth was under attack by an “disagreeable” alien bustle called the Gamilons. The Gamilons bombed earth with “planet bombs” which destroyed the planet and emitted high levels of radiation, thus driving mankind into underground cities. In one Earth year the planet would become uninhabitable. Queen Starsha of Iscandar offers mankind hope in the build of the Cosmic DNA which would cure all mankind from the radiation sickness. She sends Earth a message along with considerable technology that will allow mankind to recede to Iscandar to catch the Cosmic DNA. The Star Force is formed to disappear to Iscandar to get the Cosmic DNA. Their faithful battleship is the Argo, a renovated WWII era navy battleship remade into a Starship. There is objective one minor dilemma though, Iscandar is 148,000 Light Years away. No one has ever traveled that far before. More importantly, the Star Force only has one year to go there and befriend for a total of 296,000 Light Years.

Here is a summary of the four episodes included on this DVD:

Episode 6: The Argo lands on Titan to search for the rare element Titanite for repairs. Wildstar, Nova and IQ-9 battle off the Gamilons. Plus, Wildstar learns the final fate of his brother’s ship and crew.

Episode 7: The 2nd Battle of Pluto. The Argo sets out to extinguish the Gamilon depraved on Pluto to effect a terminate to the Planet Bombing but meets up with the menace of the Reflection Gun.

Episode 8: It’s undersea warfare on Pluto after the Reflection Gun sinks the Argo. The Star Force must rob out the Reflection Gun to have a fighting chance.

Episode 9: Heavily damaged, the Argo seeks refuge in the Asteroid belt of Minerva to compose repairs and a final stand against Colonel Ganz and the remaining Gamilon forces from Pluto.

Besides the 4 episodes on this DVD apparently Voyager is seeking atonement for the gross work they did on Allotment I. Piece II includes improved (impressive, in fact) navigation and the following DVD special features:

1.Character bios. Expansive work here, we win a complete listing of the Star Force characters, their biographies and even their Japanese counterpart names from the Yamato series.

2.A scene (complete in Japanese with English subtitles) from the Yamato series which was edited out from the English translation. The scene shows the Yamato (Argo) from the WWII era when it was sunk by American bombers. This is a Clear winner for DVD extras. 3.Trailer (shameless dart) featuring scenes from Fraction III.

Here’s my rundown:

Great: The Yamato scene in DVD extras.

Good: The episodes and the character bios.

Bad: The shameless spin for Piece III (can’t blame them though, it is a genuine marketing tool…)

Summed up, if you were ever a Star Blazers fan, give this (and Share I) a witness. It’s spacious for a creep down memory lane. If you’ve NEVER seen Star Blazers, give it a try, it’s a cult classic from the 80’s (along with other Americanized anime greats like Robotech, Voltron, Transor Z, etc) . The animation may examine a itsy-bitsy dated, but the storyline composed holds its hold very well against anything out there today. This series has stood the test of time. Due to miniature distribution this present may have slipped by the radar of a lot of people but it caught on like a fire with those who did procure it. Give it a discover and sight what the fuss was all about.

Highly Recommended

This is a animated documentary that takes a unique scrutinize at the holocaust. In the mid to leisurely nineteen thirties, Jews were allowed to leave Germany, provided that they could accumulate a country to acquire them in. Therein lay the rub. Many Jews were willing to leave Germany at the time but could acquire no country that would launch its doors to them. Then, some of them discovered that China was an option. It seemed that Shanghai would earn Jewish refugees, and eventually about twenty thousand desperate refugees decided that going to Shanghai would be a more viable option to staying in Germany and German occupied lands, where life for the Jewish population was becoming a wearisome descent into hell.

Traveling by ocean liner, the refugees would disembark in Shanghai, where section of the city was segregated into an international settlement, filled with western foreigners. By the time that the Jewish refugees began arriving, the Japanese occupied that allotment of Shanghai that included the international settlement, although the Japanese had a hands off policy with respect to the international settlement. So, even though Japan was one of the Axis powers, which included Germany, the Jewish refugees were allowed to resolve in Shanghai without incident. Moreover, the Japanese, having criticized the treatment of Asians by Germans, were now constrained to treat the Jewish refugees well in order to be consistent.

In fact, there were already two sure Jewish groups ensconced and well established in Shanghai, the Baghdadi Jews, who were business people and the wealthier of these two groups, and the Russian Jews. Each had their have communities in the international settlement. As the European Jews began pouring into Shanghai, the Baghdadi, who were Sephardic Jews, helped them, providing financial assistance and wait on. The Jewish refugees came from Germany, Poland, and Lithuania.

These refugees would band together and make a thriving community with cafes, schools, newspapers, theatres, and sport and social clubs, creating a bustling community with a vibrant cultural life. Mild, they were now a bad people living in difficult conditions, as Shanghai was a port city that was teeming with people, many of whom were living in squalid conditions, with terrible sanitation and rampant disease. Unexcited, the Jewish refugees felt superior living among the Chinese people with their Japanese captors, never experiencing anti-Semitism from their Asian neighbors. No matter how dreadful it got in Shanghai, where living conditions were horrible, it was far worse in Europe for those Jews who remained unhurried.

Then, after the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor and the Americans entered the war, the Japanese went into the International settlement and interned the Americans and British, who were pronounced to be enemy aliens. This included the Baghdadi Jews, as they carried British passports. This brought large hardship upon the Jewish refugees, who had been dependent upon the largesse of the Baghdadi Jews for their survival. The responsibility of the Jewish refugees now fell upon the Russian Jewish community.

In 1943, the Japanese, succumbing to pressure from their German allies, issued a proclamation that all stateless refugees, who came to Shanghai after 1937, were to be resettled in a segregated position and have curfews. This created, in achieve, a ghetto of Jews, as they had previously lived side by side with the Chinese. It was not, however, anything like the European ghettos of Jews that the Germans had constructed, as there were no walls separating them from the community at broad.

The filmmakers of this documentary instruct the cramped known narrative of the Jewish settlements in Shanghai through the lively reminiscences of a number of survivors, archival footage, collected photographs, and letters written at the time. The filmmakers also obtained input from historians in order to ground the yarn in the historical context out of which it arose, creating a historical backdrop for the events and situations described by the survivors. They then traveled to Shanghai with two of the survivors to revisit the city and the ghetto where these survivors had spent so many of their early years and to film the places where they had lived. Remarkably, the buildings level-headed existed, virtually unchanged, very distinguished as they had been so many years ago when Jewish refugees had occupied them.

Winner of the Santa Barbara Film Festival Audience Choice Award, this is a bright documentary. It is one that will hold the viewer riveted to the hide. Those who delight in historical documentaries, as well as those with an interest in the holocaust and World War II, will very noteworthy like this well-made documentary, which is narrated by Academy Award winner, Martin Landau.

A couple of years before World War II, Europe and the United States turned their assist on millions Jews in Europe that tried to rush an increasing persecution. Nations closed their borders after a political meeting between several nations with Germany in the center that led nowhere. Hitler former the result of the meeting as an invitation to increase the intensity of the Jewish persecution. Some Jews were fortunate enough to race to neighboring countries while many were escorted befriend to the German border and handed to the Gestapo. However, far away on the other side of the world some fortunate Jews that had the financial means to hasten found a loophole - Shanghai.

Japan and China had been in war, which led to the occupation of Shanghai. The Japanese forces were not checking passports, as people arrived to Shanghai by ships. The Chinese government had been abandoned, as was the passport control. Thus, Jews could leave Germany, even though their passports had been restricted or revoked, to peacefully enter Shanghai. A advantageous four-week voyage through the Suez Canal and the Indian Ocean led the escaping Jews to their destination, Shanghai.

Arrivals were initially haunted by the environment to which they arrived. This culture atomize had its foundation in several original experiences such as the shameful humidity, high temperature, different written and spoken language, and novel food among many other things. Yet, the 20,000 Jews that arrived found a intention to cope in the modern society. This is considerable thanks to the British Jews that had lived in Shanghai since the beginning of the century who had acquired noteworthy wealth. In the years before World War II and in the beginning of the war the newcomers basically founded their fill cramped society within Shanghai. Coffee shops, newspapers, sports events, and noteworthy more offered an outlet where the Jews could live a life powerful like in Europe.

As the war increasingly intensified the Germans who were allies with Japan pressured the Japanese to perform a ghetto in Shanghai for the Jews. The Japanese slowly established this ghetto, but it was very unlike the ghetto in Warsaw, Poland. Nonetheless, food became scarce while starvation and disease made life distinguished more difficult, which even cost several people their lives. Despite the difficulties in Shanghai, the Jews never learned how lucky they were until the extinguish of the war. When the terribly tragic news of the death camps in Europe reached them in Shanghai this moment brought them a heavy sadness, as they realized how lucky they were while reflecting on their relatives and family members’ horrific fate.

Shanghai Ghetto offers an arresting cinematic promenade, as a number of people offer first hand accounts of what it was like to live in the Shanghai Ghetto. One man tells how traumatic it was to experience the bombing of Shanghai at the raze of the war. A woman also expresses her contempt for Germany and how she now has no surviving relatives, which is very hard to hear, as one cannot even imagine the distress she must feel. These stories that the audience experiences through film provides and reinforces an critical idea - let this never happen again.

Well, you all know how things left off at the demolish of the last series. Tony got hit by a bus, Sid and Cassie met at a bench, Maxxie and Anwar made up and everyone had a nice runt singing number (?!) .

Buy,Download, Or Stream Skins, Vol. 2! Click Here

Now we catch up some months later with a whole series of enthralling account lines! We follow Tony on his dumb road to recovery (apparently getting slammed into by a bus is not something one gets over apt away) . We study him and Maxxie getting closer even as Sid and Michelle turn slowly away from Tony. We also acquire to behold Maxxie buy up a stalker, which is all sorts of fun.

Moving on, we have a glowing esteem triangle developing between Sid, Michelle and Tony (who I’ve always view really wanted to have a three-way relationship with Sid and Michelle), Jal and Chris initiate hooking up (I unexcited judge she could do better), Cassie disolves and becomes even more angry than before, and Anwar, well… Anwar starts thinking with the gross share of his body and does noxious by Maxxie. Even Effie starts to come by more attention, which makes sense given her expanded role in series three. All of this builds to an incredible and rather tear-jerking climax that one doesn’t soon forget.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Skins, Vol. 2! Click Here

As in the first series, the writting in the second is piquant and radiant. The actors are all in top construct, particularly Nicholas Hoult, who has a proper challenge playing a damaged version of Tony (well, more damaged than usual) . There’s also some incredibly droll dialogue and some stout scenes.

I really enjoyed one scene with Maxxie’s father and the father of a bully/gay basher, talking with each other. These are men who glimpse like your basic longshoremen, yet neither has a plight with Maxxie being tickled. Heck, the father of the bully even says the boy has baked a “remorse cake” and offers Maxxie the cake which says, “Sory” on it. I honest about fell out of my chair laughing at that scene, but in addition to comedy one must designate the distinct message it gives cheerful youth.

Really, I can’t mediate of any trusty flaws the explain has, aside from the fact that none of the cast place Effie will be returning for series three. I do rather hope there’s a few more extras on these DVD’s as opposed to those from series one, but I guess we’ll have to wait and eye.

Anyhow, if you liked series one, engage this! If you haven’t seen series one, go assume that and THEN catch this! If you have seen series one, but didn’t like it, then… er… why are you even looking at this page? ;) To the rest of you, luxuriate in!

The American edit of Skins: Volume 1 left off a rather sublime ending of Sid singing “Wild World” by Cat Stevens as the gang finishes out their night’s activities. The ending takes on a decidedly different, cheerier feeling but was it more appropriate than the US version? After a crazy night of debauchery, there were friendships broken, lives imperiled and so forth - but most importantly Tony has been hit by a bus. Walking around singing a Cat Stevens song is captivating, though a bit corny, and doesn’t quite demolish on the depressed stamp required for a obedient transition into Skins: Volume 2. Considering the events of Skins: Volume 2 the upbeat UK ending seems even more untrue and inappropriate; maybe that was the series’ creators’ attempts at Shakespearian levity between bouts of tragedy or maybe it was genuinely a moment of corny weakness - whatever the case, the lighthearted cheer of Skins: Volume 1 takes a backseat for a more drama-packed second installment.

Where the first season felt uneven in its coverage of the characters beyond Tony, Michelle, Sid and Cassie, the second season shifts its focus between two separate and almost entirely divergent storylines.

On one hand we have the evolving admire square of Tony (Nicholas Hoult), Michelle (April Pearson), Sid (Mike Bailey) and Cassie (Hannah Murray) complicated even further by Tony’s fresh mental area. As Sid and Michelle deal with their puppy-love inspired guilt, Tony skulks about in the background attempting to recover his mental capacities; meanwhile Cassie becomes a devious heart breaker with tiny shame. No one enthusiastic can claim to be contented, but then again it’s Skins, being satisfied has tiny to do with life or romance.

The biggest emergence (and improvement) to the second volume of Skins is the storyline of Chris (Joseph Dempsie) and Jal (Larissa Wilson) . Living on his contain, Chris struggles with a plethora of issues: abandonment, questioning his self-worth and motivation. With his touchstone of stability out of his life, Chris has advance level-headed from any and all semblance of responsibility. Jal steps in and extends the shine of her stability over yet another soul. The quality that had so many people walking all over her now opens her up to the most meaningful relationship she’s ever had. The Chris and Jal relationship brings a breath of new air to Skins. Having to stare the wringing of garments that was the Tony/Sid/Michelle/Cassie display had hasten its course halfway through the first season - this unexpected relationship opens up and changes the reveal for the better.

In Skins, some things change and some don’t. While Chris and Jal got taken into the limelight, Anwar (Dev Patel) and Maxxie (Mitch Hewer) stayed consistently in the background. Even with the exclusive Maxxie-stalker plotline, the dynamic goofy duo never really rises above the depth of coverage they received in the first season. Frankly, that’s not such a dreadful thing. These two were provocative to a point but never developed to a point that necessitated their presence in the series. Oddly, the most racy addition to the Maxxie and Anwar storyline was the presence of comedian Bill Bailey as the blue-collar and disproving father of Maxxie.

Initially Skins: Volume 2 seems like it’s going to follow the formulaic route it established in the modern series, but the arc of Chris and Jal saves the series. Without their characters it would have been almost unbearably similar to the first - again, narrowly avoided. Of course, were it not for the suitable likeability of the Chris character and the incessantly patient Jal the raze of Skins: Volume 2 wouldn’t feel half as fulfilling as it does. After two seasons of seeing these characters flail about in their circumstances, the closure they score, as bittersweet as it is, satisfies; even if the satisfaction is wrapped in emotional barbed wire.

DVD Extra Features:

There’s a hefty heaping of petite extra featurettes on the final disc of Skins: Volume 2. First off we have “Christmas with Skins”, a “Night Before Christmas” parody following Chris and Anwar who have a decidedly disappointing Christmas with an over-the-top cheesy ending. “Musical Auditions” is a slightly comic sketch allotment of numerous laughable personalities trying out for the college musical. It’s never quite as humorous as it wants to be - like Carlos Mencia. “Tony’s Nightmare”, an interestingly tortured fraction, has a Tony and Sid moment that’s decidedly unique. Tony attempts to achieve together a puzzle of himself (such a clever metaphor) as Sid delivers foreboding lines of a remarkably corrupt nature. The allotment titled “Cassandra” keeps up with the irregular nature of Cassie’s character in the second volume of Skins. There are a few other features, and overall they’re only for the moral fans of the demonstrate. If you’re watching Skins: Volume 2 to kill time the extra features will be more fervent than you want to net.

Skins: Volume 2 avoided the gaping maw of a trap that, by all accounts, it should have fallen in to. Following the Tony, Sid, Michelle and Cassie treasure triangle to a point where the audience couldn’t care less would have been easy; instead they gradually retired that spot in favor of a deeper exploration of characters that deserved it after a season of supporting roles. Skins: Volume 2 feels different from the first in all the ways required for a series to survive and cease unique - it dialed benefit the sheer chaos and debauchery in favor of a more former course of drama.

Frederico Fellini’s masterwork 8 ½ is difficult to arrive largely because of its reputation. Many critics also region that the film is so complex that it requires multiple viewings to understand, and this is likely to intimidate many viewers. But the truth is that, in spite of its surrealistic flourishes, 8 ½ is more straight-forward than its reputation might lead you to fill.

The storyline itself is very simple. A notorious director is preparing a fresh film, but finds himself suffering from creative block: he is obsessed by, loves, and feels unending frustration with both art and women, and his attention and ambition flies in so many different directions that he is suddenly incapable of focusing on one possibility lest he jabber all others. With deadlines approaching the cast and crew plunge upon him demanding information about the film-information that the director does not have because he finds himself incapable of making an artistic choice.

What makes the film attractive is the plan in which Fellini ultimately transforms the film as a whole into a commentary on the nature of creativity, art, mid-life crisis, and the battle of the sexes. Throughout the film, the director dreams dreams, has fantasies, and recalls his childhood-and this internal life is presented on the hide with the same sense of reality as reality itself. The staging of the various shots is unique; one is seldom aware that the characters have slipped into a dream, fantasy, or memory until one is well into the scene, and as the film progresses the lines between external life and internal notion become increasingly blurred, with Fellini giving as noteworthy (if not more) importance to fantasy as to fact.

Buy,Download, Or Stream 8 1/2 - Criterion Collection! Click Here

The performances and the cinematography are key to the film’s success. Even when the film becomes surrealistic, unbelievable, the actors effect very realistically and the cinematography presents the scene in keeping with what we understand to be the reality of the characters lives and relationships. At the same time, however, the film has a remarkably poetic quality, a visual fluidity and beauty that transforms even the most ordinary events into something slightly tinged by a dream-like quality. Marcello Mastroianni offers a his greatest performance here, a glowing mixture of desperation and ennui, and he is exceptionally well supported by a cast that includes Claudia Cardinale, Anouk Aimee, and a host of other notables.

I would support people not to be intimidated by the film’s reputation, for its notify can be mercurial grasped, and when critics plot the film requires repeated viewing what they actually seem to mean is that the film holds up extremely well to repeated viewing; each time it is seen, one finds more and more to luxuriate in and to peep. Even so, I would be amiss if I did not point out that people who consume a cinema of orderly status lines and who disapprove ambiguity or the necessity of interpreting deliver will probably disfavor 8 ½ a titanic deal; if you are dangerous in your taste on these points you would do well to rent or borrow the film before making a rob. For all others: strongly, strongly recommended.

The most definite achievement in 8 1/2, Fellini’s mind-boggling section of self-examination, is its mettlesome mixture of dreams and reality in order to expose the protagonist Guido’s whimsical mind set. Dream sequences reach and go without warning, depicting Guido’s wound, yearning, frustration, guilt that can pop up at any instant. The first time we search for Guido’s face, it is his mirror image, hinting to us the unreality we are about to face. Some of the dream sequences have a Bunuel-like surrealism. Some of them, however, blend almost seamlessly into scenes of reality, intentionally confounding us. Some are nightmarish, yet some are warm and hopeful. Some are brief flights of savor, and some are lengthy, explain, wild visions that assume Guido’s heightened sense of confusion and panic. Although the film is often called the best film ever made about a filmmaker, its theme is universal in that it is a shimmering picturization of a person’s (and by extension, any person’s) mind, which is often disturbed by the past, tormented by the indicate, and vexed about the future and the unknown…

The recent Criterion DVD of 8 1/2 has a splendid video transfer. A frame-by-frame cleanup of the record has been done, so this DVD is significantly better-looking than Criterion’s laserdisc version in 1989. There are momentary freeze frames during the opening scene, but since they also appeared on the LD, I choose they are normal. The 1.0 mono audio track is indistinguishable in quality from that on the LD — it is mostly tidy and spicy, although loud sound shows some distortion. The image is anamorphic. The disc is region-free. The audio is supported by newly-translated optional English subtitles.

Buy,Download, Or Stream 8 1/2 - Criterion Collection! Click Here

There is one minute discrepancy between the LD and the DVD. The LD contained the American release version of the film in which some scenes, such as the one in which Guido first meets his wife, had altered music cues. The DVD, however, is the unique Italian version, retaining all of its recent music.

The DVD’s audio commentary comprises of scene-specific comments (whose authorship is unclear), and additional comments from critic Gideon Bachmann and NYU professor Antonio Monda. The result is a shapely well-rounded audio essay covering the film’s opinion, production details, themes, and artistic significance, as well as personal recollections, anecdotes, and abandoned concepts and scenes. Other extras include two 1-hour films on the filmmakers. The first is “Fellini: A Director’s Notebook”, directed by and starring Fellini himself. It is a sort of Fellini-style DAY FOR NIGHT, a fictional, somewhat comical anecdote of how the director goes about making a film. The video/audio quality of this allotment is terrible, and there are no subtitles or closed captioning. The second film is a documentary made by German filmmakers in 1993 titled “Nino Rota: Between Cinema and Concert”. It offers an intimate yet enigmatic portrayal of Nino Rota through his personal recordings, film footage of him working with Fellini, clips of some early films scored by Rota, and interviews of his associates and students. One segment is about how Rota recycled his earn from the 1957 film FORTUNELLA to build the theme for THE GODFATHER, an act that would cost him the Oscar nomination. The DVD extras also include 3 unusual interviews. Sandra Milo speaks candidly about her experiences, both personal and professional, with Fellini. Linda Wertmuller lavishes praises on Fellini’s genius while offering a interesting appraisal of Fellini’s psychology that figures prominently in 8 1/2. And Vittorio Storaro pays tributes to the achievements of 8 1/2’s cinematographer, Gianni di Venanzo. Rounding out the extras are 100 or so aloof photos from the position of the film, some of which were taken from deleted scenes.

You want classic Sci Fi with visionary special effects and mind-bending themes? Check out STAR WARS or 2001! You want a zero gravity striptease, costumes that plunge off at a moment’s perceive, and a status craft with wall to wall shag carpeting traveling through a lava lamp? BARBARELLA fits the bill! This is the widescreen DVD version with no edits. Although I have heard rumors of a more attractive crop somewhere out there, this is not the PG rerelease from the 70s. Examine the movie Jane Fonda wants you to forget! Too abominable because she’s sexy, comical, and glowing here. Groove to the soundtrack of Phil Spector rip-offs, gape in apprehension as she seduces … well… everyone in the film (incuding a female tyrant with a horn!) . But composed, it’s aesthetic tame and innocent fun. I recognize this when I want to be in a excellent mood. It’s amusing, fluffy fun! A pink bunny if you will.

This film, along with other fine classics such as “Beyond the Valley of the Dolls,” are distinct proof that the age of really, really awful yet beneficial films is slow us. Position in the 41st Century, the hypersexual Barbarella goes in search of the unsuitable renegade scientist Duran Duran and manages to stumble across what must be the grooviest planet this side of “Vegas in Situation.” In her quest to fetch Duran Duran (”Pardon me, but do you know Duran Duran? “), Barbarella manages to shag half the planet and pique the prurient interest of the horrible, yet uber-sensual bisexual queen (”hello, my exquisite, attractive”) . After demolishing the fantastic Orgasmatron and getting herself locked into the queen’s funky chamber of dreams, Barbarella saves the day with a bubble of goodness and some serve from her blind angel friend Pygor. The unbelievably poor acting in this film is very well counterbalanced by the incredible Pucciesque fun fur sets and improbable special effects (i.e. Everytime Barbarella has an orgasm her hair instantaneously perms itself!) It’s impossible, given our fresh climate of cynicism, to accomplish grand quality camp like this today. All attempts to reproduce a movie this overwhelmingly unpleasant would unbiased have to fail. Yet, I cannot recommend this film highly enough - hasten, do not wobble, to leer it.

“I Adore Lucy” is probably THE greatest of the 1950’s TV sitcoms, but “My Dinky Margie” runs a very stop second. Gale Storm as Margie Albright and her father Vern played by Charles Farrell and Mr. Honeywell played by the Clarence Kolb are all righteous. These are seasoned actors who retract their roles seriously. In other words, they are there to accomplish you laugh and they do an well-behaved job of doing it.

This collection of 12 episodes is well worth the imprint. The print and sound quality is unbelievable for the most fragment. I fair hope this company comes out with future collections. I’ve seen these over and over again, and I want more of “My Puny Margie!”

FINALLY! A expedient rob of a Cirque du Soleil performance. I sufferied through the last two (”Novelle Experience” and “Saltimbanco”) disappointing videos. Watching one missed opportunity after another, I had to procedure from my memory of being at the performance to complete the narrate. Or else I had to overcome annoying camera tricks. At last there is a film that enhances the experience of “Quidam” that surpasses the visions one gets from a a seat in the audience, and ALMOST equals the experience of being there.

Let me clarify. Camera shots and close-ups are powerful improved over previous ventures (I have not seen the film of “Alegria”), and now are better integrated into the overall experience. Rather than trying to design camera stunts of their maintain (there are some exceptions), the viewpoint tries to engage or comment on what is being filmed.. The sound quality (captured from a live performance) is supurb.

And the acts are improbable. Many are actually more luscious [to me] than in my two live viewings because of the viewpoint of this film. While some are not as impressive as some past acts have been, the plan the entire production encompasses their essence improves their impact. And some of the acts, quite frankly, are simply as advantageous as it gets.

But in this instance, the whole is far greater than the parts. This has always been a Cirque trait, but is particularly evident in “Quidam”. The vision that permeates every frame of this film, every motion of every performer, every brush stroke in every make-up, every stamp in the get, every stitch in every costume– is as advanced as anything seen in any art-form -painting, dance, theater, music, athletic arts, light, sound, technical theatre –all fully expressed in one overwhelming artistic statement that produces no less than a position of horror. Hey, but that is what you ask from Cirque du Soleil.

You accept it here. For the first time (in my humble notion) on film. And now you can sit at home in comfort and love it again and again– and you can indicate your friends what it is like to be in a very special world of enchantment.

Finally it’s here, Quidam on Video. My favourite touring reveal, with “O” taking the top marks in the fixed space department. After endless e-mails to Cirque’s marketing department, on when it would be out, it comes fair in time for Christmas. Shot in Amsterdam, The Netherlands attend in April this year, the expose does a large job capturing the images of the reveal. From the joyfully opening of Chris Lashua’s German Wheel via the erotic Aerial contortion in silk by Isabelle Chasé to the heart-stopping Banquine finale by the entire cast. Many acts are shortend, espcially the playfull diabolos and hoop acts, others such as the Manipulation act, did not play in Amsterdam. However, the Manipulation act is replaced by the wonderfull Handbalancing, which aged to alter with the diabolos relieve in the states but is wait on as a chunky act here. One thing is mammoth though, and please Cirque steal study, One tiring, clown act per expose is really enough, and really takes enough accelerate out of the indicate, Quidam would be even better without Les Malcoma and with another act!, John alone brings more laughs than those three idiots from France.

Having seen the point to 11 times, I would certainly say that Quidam on Video is something else than Quidam live, feeling the bass in the tent during the Statue objective adds to the whole experience. Being in the tent Cirque is a 360o experience something that is very difficult to take on tape, even with Yet, the video provides 90 minutes of non-stop entertainment that is not to be missed. The quality of both the sound is so pleasant, it eliminates the need for a Quidam live CD, since the orginal version unbiased lacks many of the extraordinary expose tracks.

Indeed 5 stars for this video of this 5 star point to. Simply because it does what it should do: it reminds you of a huge night, it can’t compete with it, but hey for the mark you can’t even consume a restricted idea seat and then you certainly won’t explore and feel as mighty of the note as you do when you hold this fabulous tape. Now let’s all hold our fingers crossed for a stout version of Mystére on Video in 2003!, which shouldn’t be that hard…..

This is most definitely musical gender-bending at it’s best!

Not many musical/comedies are produced nowadays, let alone great ones like Rocky Dismay Record Reveal & Dinky Shop Of Horrors to name a few that approach to my mind.

This 80’s musical/comedy is residence in 1934 Overjoyed and I DO MEAN Contented Paree! This film is quite unparalled in the fact that Victor/Victoria was a movie BEFORE it made it to The Ample White Method. Julie Andrews played Victor/Victoria in both movie and on stage.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Victor/Victoria! Click Here

Great songs in - Julie’s “Le Jazz Hot” & Lesley Warren’s bimboesque “Kings Can-Can”. The sexual chemistry is A+++ between Andrews & a sexually confused James Garner who plays “King Marchand” a Chicago club owner, who is so TOTALLY out of his element in Paris, let alone being sexually frustrated and confused over his crush on the ravishing, stylish and glad, Victor.

Great cast, gargantuan songs and a greater storyline with lots of slapstick comedy perform Victor/Victoria a classic of it’s time!

Happy Watching!

In the age of “Moulin Rouge” audiences would do far better by rediscovering this musical comedy gem, starring the incomparable Julie Andrews, Robert Preston, Leslie Ann Warren and James Garner. Rarely has Hollywood captured the essence of astronomical music with outstanding performances as it has in “Victor/Victoria.” There are literally a dozen or so scenes that will leave you hysterical, as in gasping-for-breath hysterical, something many films aspire to, but few ever drawl on. But more than laughable, this is a poignant, character driven film where every necessary is allowed to shine.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Victor/Victoria! Click Here

Andrews permanently sheds her “Sound of Music” virginal skin in the title role, embodying the man-pretenting-to-be-a-woman-pretending-to-be-a-man piece in a arrangement noone has ever done before or since. Of course, the audience is in on the joke, but it never becomes tired or anything less than current. Robert Preston is the antithesis of his archaic “Music Man” personna, a gay-Paree emcee who discover’s Victor’s startling 8-octave vocal range and turns him/her into the rage of Paris. These two performances, along with Leslie Ann Warren’s unforgettable floosy - all three Oscar-nominated - are topple tedious improbable. These are actors at the very height of their construct….silly, passionate, genuine and endearing. The musical highlights are truly phenomenal, certainly better than other “best loved” musicals like “Singing In the Rain” or “An American In Paris.” Andrews scores on “Le Jazz Hot” and shows an indelible silly flair few people knew she was suitable of in the legendary cafeteria sequence, which literally had the audience I viewed this with ROLLING in the aisles. It’s a movie where even the insects - cockroaches in this case - are memorable. But more so, its also a lesson in what Hollywood Ancient to do so well in its tradition of movie musicals….and what its forgotten to do over the past two decades since Victor/Victoria was released. In a nutshell, Hollywood forgot that the power of song and music is their ability to HUMANIZE a character and progress the situation, but also lend depth and color to the principals. For me, “Victor/Victoria” IS Hollywood’s last mammoth musical, and certainly one of the most visually ravishing, fully realized films of our time. This ranks far and away as Blake Edward’s crowning masterpiece - high above Bawl or the Pink Panther flicks. And the supporting performances are some of the best ever caqptured. Unprejudiced try and forget Warren’s cooing to James Garner (”pooookie….I’m horny) or Alex Karras’ jubilant gangster falling in adore with Preston. From roaches to royalty, “Victor/Victoria” is quite simply one of the best films of the 80’s or any other decade.

I am anxiously awaiting its release on DVD, and secretly hoping that the currently available Broadway exhibit version silently goes away as it cannot gain a candle to the film. Rent it, remove it, Treasure IT.

Morbid curiosity - that was the sole reason I considered picking up this DVD especially after reading that the Mouse House had did a slash and paste job to what is easily one of my current cartoons of all time. When I found it released early I couldn’t pass it up.

Let me say one thing - I was bad.

The chapter sheet features the mask art for the front and support of the DVD and the disk is impartial a characterize of the Spider-Man face reflecting assist the Green Goblin. When I build the disk in I found something else to be unbelievable - no forced trailers, something Buena Vista home video is well-known for. The menu opens with a bunch of shroud caps of villains flashing onto the conceal and eventually leads into the city with a level-headed Spidey in mid plug on the side of a building.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Spider-Man - The Ultimate Villain Showdown! Click Here

Starting the movie will lead you to the long opening theme for the Spidey toon and only has one change - an added “The Ultimate Villain Showdown” stamp under the Spidey logo. By now you probably want to know what is on the disk - the episodes go in order - “Fabricate a Wish”, “Attack of the Octto Bot”, “Enter the Green Goblin”, and “Rocket Racer”. This is also known as Chapter 2,3,4 and 5 in the Sins of the Fathers narrative arc. The transfer was very well done but a small humdrum at times - altho this is more than likely the animation and not the transfer. The episodes calm absorb the unusual title cards and at the waste of the first three episodes hasten directly into the next episode, avoiding the kill credits until the raze of the movie.

The special features include the 1967 Origin of Spider-Man toon with an intro by Stan “The Man” Lee. There is also a Stan’s Soapbox feature which is about 20 mins long and features Stan talking about the creation of Spidey and some other details of the Marvel U. As a fan boy I found this feature very savory and even got a couple of chuckles out of Stan. There is also another feature that allows you to view commentary by Stan before each episode - once again, colossal stuff. Another feature is a Villains Gallery that allows you to assume either Venom, Doc Ock, the Hobgoblin or the Green Goblin and rep a complete bio of the character. Each villain has at least two clips that reveal some aspect of the character as well as Stan’s thoughts about the character. The final feature was a sneak inspect piece - featuring Look Kids 2, Snow Dogs, Digimon and a couple others that I can’t remember suitable at the moment.

Conclusion - Overall I judge the disk is really worth the win up and was very jubilant that Disney hadn’t pasted together a unusual movie and followed a fable arc from the series. While the DVD had a lot of features I wish there had been an easter egg with Sins of the Fathers Chapter 1 but overall this DVD comes with a lot more extra features than the X-Men DVD’s that were released by Universal. Hopefully sales will be obliging on this disk and we’ll stare Disney release season sets. An added tag to Disney - construct Origin of the Silver Surfer your next attempt.

Buena Vista has serene 5 inspiring adventures on this tape for your enjoyment. 4 of the shows are from the 1990’s inviting series third year “Sins Of The Fathers” narrative arc.

“Accomplish A Wish” - Spider-man is is about to give up the hero biz until he meets his biggest fan. While giving her a tour of the city Spidey style, Spider man is captured by Doctor Octopus.

“Enter The Green Goblin” - Norman Osborn has disappeared after a lab explosion. Now one by one members of Oscorps Board of Directors are being kidnapped by a unusual villain who calls himself the Green Goblin. Has Normans son Harry taken matters into his enjoy hands? Mary Jane thinks so and now it’s up to Spidey to fetch out.

“Rocket Racer” - Spider-man must discontinuance one of Peter Parkers lab students with a past criminal describe from using his science-savvy(and some “borrowed” technology) to return to crime while also trying to put the city from a gang of jet packed wearing thieves who are aided by a rampaging giant Gyro Wheel.

The fifth and final episode on this tape is from the 1960’s keen series.
