I witness a lot of movies and have seen all of the “classics” and O’ Brother Where Art Thou rates among the best of them - no kidding! Twenty years from now, they’ll be airing this film on AMC and TCM alongside the likes of North by Northwest, The Wild Bunch and How Green Was My Valley.

The yarn is completely attractive and the cinematography is sparkling. Realize that filming took location in June/July when the Southern countryside was a lush, verdant green. That bone dry, depression-era dust bowl radiant is a wonder of digital editing.

The Coen brothers have done two things that are all too rare in Hollywood these days. First, their screenplay is fresh (yes, it’s loosely based on Homer’s Odyssey but to evaluate the film solely on this tale framework is to overlook the other aspects of the film) . Second, they’ve produced a film that captivates not with multi-million dollar action sequences and the latest Moby track but with vast dialogue and an authentic blues/bluegrass soundtrack (well worth buying) that is as distinguished a character in the movie as the three principals - Ulysses Everett McGill (George Clooney), Delmar O’Donnell (Tim Blake Nelson) and Pete Hogwallop (John Turturro) . The eclectic cast (that also includes Charles Durning, Holly Hunter, Stephen Root and John Goodman) turns in superbly acted performances across the board. Clooney, who all too often plays 2 dimensional characters, gives an award-worthy performance in what is unquestionably his best role to date. Those not familiar with Nelson or Turturro will be impressed by these wonderfully skilled actors.

I will say that a lot of people have told me that they didn’t care for this film, which I obtain incomprehensible. I’m not certain what more you could ask for in a movie.

The Coen brothers have a cult following, but until I saw this movie, I didn’t count myself among the masses that esteem the Coens. However, with this movie, this brother team has cemented their reputation as serious and skilled filmmakers with a lot to say and a stylish device of saying it.

This movie is a loose retelling of “The Odyssey” by Homer, position in the Depression-era Deep South. George Clooney, John Turturro, and Tim Blake Nelson form an unlikely team of escaped convicts who embark on a dash of the uncommon and fantastic. Search For for the appearance of many noted Odyssey allusions, such as the Sirens and the Cyclops (among others) . The Coens’ quirky rob on this classic narrative is delicious and perfectly executed, and the script is beautifully and humorously written. The sets and filming are artistic and a bit mythical, and the casting choices are unbiased mammoth. The film is peopled with intelligent characters, in classic Coen brothers fashion. Peruse for colossal supporting characters played by John Goodman, Holly Hunter, Charles Durning, and others.

And that’s not all! Interwoven in this film are big depression-era songs and some modern songs, with pleasurable music direction by T-bone Burnett. Who says Moulin Rouge is the first movie in a long while to acquire the musical format? This movie is impartial as worthy a musical as Baz Luhrmann’s much-hyped movie.

I really acquire that this movie reaches heights that previous Coen brothers movies (even Fargo) haven’t reached. In addition, I acquire this movie was slighted by the Academy during Oscar time. This movie was one of the best films of the year, and excelled in every aspect a film can be awarded for.

This film is one of the best things that I have seen near out of the GITS franchise. I have watched the movie several times, each time enjoying even more. I would give a description of the spot, but I will not destroy it for you. My only complaint about Solid Area Society is that it borrows ideas from both of the feature-length movies. If you liked GITS: SAC, and most specially 2nd GIG, you will savor this movie.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Ghost in the Shell S.A.C. - 2nd Gig! Click Here

Note: It is dubbed in English, unlike Innocence. Amazon objective has that fact incorrect

Solid Space Society is hopefully a label of what is to reach in the world of Ghost in the Shell. After Stand Alone Complex’s 2nd GIG, I was definitely left with a slightly bitter aftertaste. The pacing of the 2nd GIG felt uneven and the record felt more convoluted than tastefully complex, creating an adequate but not perfect addition to the GitS series. However, Solid Site Society takes the best from the Stand Alone Complex series and in exiguous under two hours presents a tale as rich in detail and as lovingly complex as the series preceding it.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Ghost in the Shell S.A.C. - 2nd Gig! Click Here

A tall plus of the movie is that instead of feeling like an overstretched episode, it feels more like a long arc of quality episodes stringed together while smooth feeling cinematic in its presentation. Solid Spot Society gives us everything we inquire in a GitS story: a sci-fi universe that draws you in but never overwhelms, continuity in character development, rich and brilliant dialogue and state that almost seems plausible down the road, and of course, some light philosophy and shades of grey. Even if you aren’t an anime or a strict sci-fi fan, you might unbiased relish this one.

Exciting action scenes, tall special effects, witty dialogue, angst-filled romance. Ignore naysayers who say the dialogue is unpleasant, (I would like to know what is so awful about it. It is an adventure movie and yet the dialogue is almost corn-free, yet many pretentious “acting” movies are elephantine of corn), or the acting is poor. Hayden Christensen is convincing showing his angst and sometimes being a petulant brat, (he does play a teenager, yet critics seem to have a predicament with him actually playing his share) setting up his path to the darkside. The mentor-student, father-son relationship between Obi-Wan and Anakin is well done, shown in the movie with the snappy and sometimes witty Star Wars dialogue I like.

If it seems I am attacking the critics it is because I do search for a lot of pandering to snobbishness in many of their reviews, instead of an unbiased assessment of the movie. Also, too noteworthy nostalgic feelings from die-hard current Star Wars trilogy fans gets in the blueprint of some of the reviews. Many of these reviewers are TOO stuck on their nostagia, and review by constantly comparing them to the traditional movies (a very high-standard indeed!), and whether they fulfill their nostagia, instead of unbiased taking in the unusual movies as they are. If they honest don’t care for the movie, ravishing, but there is too mighty going into many reviews that have nothing to actually do with the quality of the movie itself.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Star Wars - Episode II, Attack of the Clones! Click Here

In any case, fair try the movie if you haven’t seen it already. Ignore the snobs and the overly nostalgic. Have fun and be wowed, and contemplate the recent movie Revenge of the Sith in theaters, another 6 out of 5 star movie!

Ok, first of all, I would like to say that all of the people out there who went to this movie expecting it to be exactly on the same level as the older trilogy, and left feeling disappointed by the anecdote, or the characters, or anything else. You can’t inquire of it to be the same at all. The first trilogy was spot during a civil war, during a murky time. The characters were varied. You had a rogue, a princess, a wookiee co-pilot, an weak war hero jedi, and a young antagonist with hidden potential, who all came together to defeat a popular enemy. Now, flash succor a few decades. It is a collected time, but with a stirring in the air, of a coming change. The government is becoming passe and detestable, and the Jedi are losing their mystique and grandeur, because they are attached to the faded government. So, you can question a few things. Dense political plotlines, unsuitable individuals, Jedi who aren’t in touch with their powers anymore, and a more frail school soceity. You must understand this. Han Solo would never blend in an environment such as this, he wouldn’t match. The characters in this movie were edifying in my concept, because they fit the times that they were site in. Obi-Wan (Ewan) was considerable more fleshed out, and you could roar that he was jumpy for Anakin, and his panic would lead to failure in his training of Anakin. Anakin ( Hayden) also came to stout veiw. No longer the child who screamed “wizard!”, He had near into the light as a terrorized young man who would become The Darth Vader we all know. And Yoda, I know there are a few people out there who said that yoda’s fight was sacrilige, I disagree. Yoda has trained for hundreds of years, His skills would believe that. And add the fact that he wasn’t at the kill of his life like he is later. Padme was the same, but for pleasurable reason. Mace had more hide time, and Dooku was a righteous addition to the account, it’s fine to hear some smack talking in a fight. I miss that. The movie exceeded my expectations in many ways. I now have to wait a couple more years to inspect the empire rise to power and the climactic lightsaber battle that is inevitable, but I can execute it now, thanks to the second chapter not sucking. Now I can observe a newer Star Wars DVD without wincing, the years will pass more easily that design.

Don’t Say A World is like spending the night with an ex-High School girlfriend. You’ll pick up what you were looking for and you probably won’t detest yourself in the morning. This isn’t a enormous film. Its debatable whether its really even a marvelous film but its does what it does effectively. Michael Douglas is a psychyatrist whose daughter is kidnapped by criminal Sean Bean. Seems that Douglas’ patient, Brittany Murphy, has a number in her head that Bean desperately wants and if Douglas doesn’t accept Murphy to express that number, then Bean will ruin Douglas’ daughter. Plot-wise, this lovely distinguished by the numbers and there aren’t a whole lot of surprises. Its predictable entertainment but, and I don’t mean this to be insulting at all, people who relish thrillers where the top-notch guys are unquestionably top-notch and the dreadful guys are, without a doubt, outrageous will probably indulge in this. Those who expect shades of gray in their plots will want to go view Memento again. Again, I don’t mean that to be a condemnation of this film or any of the many people who enjoyed it. Sometimes you’re in the mood for a Memento and sometimes you’re in the mood for a Don’t Say A Word and when I saw this film, I was more in the mood for a Memento. However, all that said, Don’t Say A Word pushes its buttons with an unmistakable skill. Douglas and Bean are gorgeous distinguished playing the characters they always seem to play but they’re both favorable enough actors with enough hide presence that its not as annoying as watching Sylvester Stallone sleepwalk through some of his lesser, non-Rambo action films. As well, Brittany Murphy is a improbable actress even if her character annoyed me. To an extent, she’s going through the same paces as in Girl, Interrupted but, like Douglas and Bean, she does it well. Gary Felder’s a marvelous director and keeps the predictable anecdote from dragging. If you’re looking for a chance to unprejudiced chill out for two hours and glimpse some awful guys fetch what’s coming to them (and, let’s be impartial, after everything that’s happened over the past month — who isn’t? ), this film might be for you. If its not, well, at least you didn’t pay money for Pearl Harbor again.

When his career stagnated in the unhurried 80’s after his Oscar salvage for WALL STREET, Michael Douglas reinvented himself as an actor as the poet of middle passe paranoia. From BASIC INSTINCT to FALLING DOWN to WAR OF THE ROSES to DISCLOSURE to THE GAME, no one other than Alfred Hitchcock (though Hitchcock did it from late the camera) has made more of a career by cataloging on celluloid the litany of fears (both rational and irrational) that plague the psyche of the middle-aged American male–sex, drugs, violence, and career as destructive forces forever chipping away at the family and at the self.

Viewed in this light, it is understandable why Douglas took this role. It carries forward many of the actor’s well-liked themes–alienation, the threatened family, justified paranoia. That being said though, this is not among Douglas’s best work. His performance is once again admirable, but the direction is ho-hum, and while it starts off with originality and promise, it falls come the waste encourage into the same ragged action and suspense movie cliches, and at times it is detectable that a script doctor was brought in to rewrite distinct scenes. The result is a modestly fascinating thriller that makes for an OK Saturday night, but isn’t likely to procure Michael Douglas an invite to Oscar night.

I’m not kidding - this movie has to be seen to be believed. It’s got appreciate, romance, lust, sex, revenge - in short, all the things that obtain life worthwhile. Shakespeare doesn’t have anything up on this comely section of cinema. The strangulation scene makes this whole movie worth it.

My goodness, I’m as white as a turnip, but this movie mild moves me in a multitude of ways!! Blaxploitation at it’s finest. Marloe Monte convey’s the despotism and decrepitude of south central L.A. to perfection, a visceral portrayal of what could be considered one of the most ignominious eras in contemporary American culture. The laconic dialogue, consisting in it’s finest moments of dilapidated “jive talk”, replete with the obligatory “mutha” every ten minutes, realistically portrays the culture and frustration of Charles (Monte) and his prostitute girlfriend as they struggle to ameliorate their lives in an atmosphere of ubiquitous oppression and exploitation by the omnipresent “MAN”. A luminous belief, colorful execution, inspired acting…I cannot prase it enough. The sexual tension is as tangible as can be, and the action is incessantly non-stop.

Finally, the Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon that aired on ABC in 1993-1994 (known as “Sonic SatAM” to the fans) comes to DVD in its entirety. Many of those who managed to glean the explain on TV well over 10 years ago fell in adore with it then, and have been fans ever since. It had honest the upright blend of comedy, drama, and action, with no one of those standing out too considerable above the others. It was also a fairly dismal prove for its time. This is a mighty anticipated release in the Sonic fan community, and this DVD position contains all 26 episodes, collecting the complete series in one 4-disc status!

Buy,Download, Or Stream Sonic The Hedgehog - The Complete Series! Click Here

This cartoon was made relieve before the SegaSonic storyline really got developed, and you won’t be seeing familiar faces like Knuckles, Amy Rose, or the more fresh characters from Sonic Adventure 2, Shadow and Rouge, simply because, well, none of them existed benefit then (Sonic 3, which was Knuckles’ first game, didn’t even approach out until the year after it started airing) . But that doesn’t detract from the explain at all as there are plenty of well developed characters added here that weren’t from the games. This cartoon set-up the first proper storyline unhurried the whole Sonic universe (in the U.S. anyway), and in my conception, was one of the best American made cartoons ever. The Archie series of Sonic the Hedgehog comics was loosely based on this cartoon, but really failed to purchase the quality of writing stale to form this demonstrate. (Archie has since moved on to try to emulate the games more) .

Despite the age of this prove, if you’re a Sonic fan, you definitely shouldn’t pass this one up. Definitely the best Sonic cartoon ever produced, in my notion, as well as one of the greatest cartoons of all time. I’d give it more than 5 stars, but well.. that’s the most you can give here on Amazon.com :)

The short review: Intention Past Icy! If you’re a fan of the series you have to have this DVD collection!

The long review:

EPISODES

For anyone who’s had to stand watching crop or badly recorded episodes from TV, I can’t snort how ample it feels to notice these in obvious stereo with no tracking lines and perfect narrate. I can even witness the paintbrush strokes in the background art it’s so distinct! So far as I can allege, everything has been restitched serve together wonderfully and I can peep no unique edits. It’s fair like I remember in Ben Hurst’s words “novel - like watching it for the first time!”

BONUS FEATURES

A few people have complained about the lack of bonus features, but I can’t say favorable enough about them. The series was produced 10 years ago, since then most if not all of the artwork in the vaults has been lost, sold online (I’ve seen a number of cels pass by there) or locked away. The fact they managed to obtain even a puny amount of high-quality artwork makes it well worth the disaster. I too wish there was more, but the stuff they did earn is very genuine. I fill there are really only two bits of the extended/deleted scenes that are truly fresh material but it’s all well archived and the one soundless animatic has the script super-scripted in so it’s easy to follow. The belief art is delicate, there are a few original model/expression sheets in the interview with Hurst and tons of background art that will blow you away. This is the same quality one would put a question to in feature post production work. Both of the interviews are exciting, enlightening and even a shrimp tearful at times, especially Ben’s lively speech about Season 3 and his attend for the fans. Considering how hard the crew at FUS has worked to accumulate this DVD, they deserve it. The DVD menus themselves are a blast — I have seen a number of poorly produced menus with “craptastic” art in them and these blow me away. They are thoughtful and even amusing! In one fraction Snively hits the “Bonus Features” button. It’s the cramped things like that which indicate the wretchedness and care they achieve into making the DVD.

BOX ART

Okay so some of the artists who contributed art are very young and aren’t what you would call “obedient artists”. But to me, it’s refreshing to sight a company that actually WANTED and Well-liked input from the fan tainted. It shows that we are all united together as fans of Sonic, no matter what our background is. You can mutter each of the artists was enraged and trying their best to obtain something to explain how grand they like the present. I go as far to say a few of these artists ARE exceptional, some of them even drawing “on-model” as we in the animation business say. Ken Penders (while not really a fan per se since he’s worked professionally on Sonic Artwork) did a glowing first-rate job with the camouflage, as it did include most of the cast and it doesn’t present anything that isn’t there (Thank Goodness his arms aren’t blue either :D) . Compared to the first test hide, this final one is great better. Dr. Robotnik is the best portion of the cloak, he’s very well drawn.

ANYTHING ELSE?

Just so you know where I’m coming from, I was prime age when SATAM came out, being 10 at the time, and it is a ample reason I am who I am today and certainly a reason why I’m going into the animation industry. That being said I can’t scream enough why it’s significant to succor this release. They did a improbable job. And I assume it’s worth buying this for any Sonic fan, especially if you know someone who likes Sonic X —

In Sonic’s words, “Accumulate ready to rock, cause this will knock your socks off!” :)

If you’re unique to Sonic and like this series, I highly recommend checking out Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, and Sonic Underground as well (the other two shows produced by DiC, the predecessor to SATAM and it’s later cousin, respectively.) A lot of fans would say otherwise but I impartial can’t derive enough of the blue blur!

How do I even initiate reviewing a explain like “Serial Experiments: Lain? “

To commence with, this is one of the most visually incredible, compelling, curved, sci-fi-ish, dramatic, different and confusing anime series I’ve ever seen. It all centers on Lain, who, in all respects, appears to be a normal, if not independent (read: loner) young girl. She doesn’t have neat powers, she isn’t anime-style sexy, and she doesn’t hold or operate a giant mecha — but she does wear the cutest itsy-bitsy teddy gain outfit: ears, tail, and all.

The account begins with the suicide of one of her classmates. A short time later, she’s emailed by this classmate, from “beyond the tiring,…” Lain, having likely never powered on her Navi (believe future, bid activated Macintosh — it even run’s the “Copland OS”), clears off her desk and sets the machine up. And she’s crooked. She asks her “Papa” for a current Navi, as her’s is a microscopic customary and dated. With her wish granted, she’s soon cruz’ing the Wired (the future Internet) in her impress original Navi. By chance (or is it? ) she comes into posession of a Psyche Processor, and reads up on how to install it. That Processor is only the beginning, and soon her room is transformed into a dismal cave of curved wires and green, bubbling coolant.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Serial Experiments Lain - Boxed Set! Click Here

The series, like I said, is confusing. If you had a hard time with “Eyes Wide Shut,” you might pass on “Lain.” It’s difficult to review, because of everything that happens in it. Legal, there are only 13 episodes, but those episodes hold so mighty legend line, that missing one is like missing two hours of a movie that’s two hours and ten minutes long. Only until the last disc makes it into your DVD player do you launch to understand some of what’s going on. And then, the chronicle line changes on you again, and you’re once again thinking, “Huh? “

If you’ve never seen “Lain,” I wouldn’t recommend this box site. I also can’t recommend the rob of fair the first disc to “try it out,” as the safe, confusing stuff doesn’t begin happening until the next disc’s episodes. You might want to try a rental store or friend, to give it a test drive. If you already occupy all the DVD’s, there’s really no reason to capture this box site, as all you’d be getting is a box (and, of course, a second copy of each DVD) .

Repeated viewings of “Lain” are recommended. Personally, I believe a miniature “viewer companion” for us American audiences would have been a nice touch. “Serial Experiments: Lain” should be watched by all anime fans, as it provides a different arrive to anime, but some may near away feeling lost and dazed. Lain will do that to you.

Serial Experiments Lain is a prove which leaves most people with a clear impression of ‘huh? ‘. It is the myth of a girl named Lain, who is rather socially inept.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Serial Experiments Lain - Boxed Set! Click Here

In the first episode, a classmate of Lain’s jumps off of a building to her death. Afterwards, people begin receiving E-mails from this girl. And that’s fair the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the ‘weirdness’ of Lain.

As the series progresses, so does Lain. Because of the stupid girl’s E-mail, she gets a shrimp fervent in computers. She learns more and more of the Wired, which is like our Internet. From the individuals on the Wired, and from her occupy experiences there, she slowly learns the truth about the Wired, and the world.

Lain is a nicely lifeless, somewhat pretentious anime. It questions what we know as the genuine world, using real-seeming characters.

In some ways, the series has an ‘X-files’ (the multi-part episodes) feel to it. You never quite know what’s going on, who’s who, and impartial when the pieces are about to approach together, the storyline takes another twist.

A salubrious contemplate into the psyche of the Internet, Internet users, and the world.

This is the only vast scale DVD documentary film series on the Court (currently) . The analysts who provide commentary are some of the best in the nation: including professors, a journalist, a few lawyers, a previous Supreme Court Justice (Sandra Day O’Conner) and the recent Chief Justice (John G. Roberts, Jr.), and law clerks who served previous Justices. As far as filmed documentaries on historical narratives, the production value of this PBS series is high: every report and video archive was accessed and frail adeptly. The one critique I have of this 4-part-4-hour series is that it is too short: there is virtually no coverage of the first fraction of the first amendment: religion & government. Instead, PBS offers a huge political drama which looks at economic shifts, cultural shifts, and political power plays with a focus on the U.S. Supreme Court.

On Nation Under Law

These episodes follow the development of the Supreme Court chronologically, so this episode is dedicated largely to Chief Justice John Marshall. Marbury v. Madison sets the precedent for judicial review and is a complicated case: this episode takes time to build the background essential to understand the critical features of the political and right context. The summary of Marshall’s ruling is decent. The next well-known case is McCulloch v. Maryland is Marshall’s other considerable case that is covered here before involving on the Andrew Jackson’s administration and Chief Justice Taney, arguably the worst Chief Justice in the history of the Court (e.g. Dred Scott v. Sanford) .

A Unique Kind of Justice

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Supreme Court! Click Here

This episode begins following Stephen Jay Field (nominated by Abraham Lincoln) who space a precedent for a free what one analyst called a “rootin tootin capitalism.” The Court began to defer to states on many economic issues (in difference to Marshall’s decision in Fletcher v. Peck) and the doctrine of “liberty of contract” became central. These laissez-faire rulings by the court ran into the Stout Depression, which lead to the tensions with Roosevelt’s Unusual Deal agenda. The episode ends with Oliver Holmes, Jr. as insightful and prophetic.

A Nation of Liberties

This episode follows Hugo Dim who was once a KKK member but became, as a Justice, a defender of many features of the Civil Rights Movement (I liked this advance better than if PBS objective followed Chief Justice Earl Warren) . Brown v. Board of Education is the central case despite Alabama’s defiant stance against the ruling. There is a visual and musical crescendo where the words of the ruling are read allowed along with the words “equal protection” that scroll across the tv cover in a transparent procedure with the famed narrate of Nettie Hunt and her daughter Nickie sitting on the steps of the Supreme Court with a newspaper in hand that declares the ban on segregation. I fell in like with this PBS series at that moment. The cases of Gideon v. Wainwright and Miranda v. Arizona region the stage for the Nixon agenda and the Rehnquist Revolution.

The Rehnquist Revolution

This episode follows the development of the “culture war” surrounding the abortion (e.g. Roe v. Wade) debate along with the rise of Rehnquist through Nixon. Nixon wanted to be tough on crime and he notion that the Miranda case was a burden on local law enforcement; would Rehnquist eventually overrule it? No he didn’t (Dickerson v. United States) . Sandra Day O’Conner is interviewed in this episode and she reiterates here defense of upholding the precedent in the Roe case along with the striking of trimester periods in her belief in Planned Parenthood v. Casey. The analysts on this episode argue that the “Rehnquist Revolution” begins in 1994 with the United States v. Lopez case where the commerce powers of the federal congress were restricted in favor of states rights in creating laws about gun regulations reach schools. Unique Chief Justice, John G. Roberts, Jr. is interviewed to comment on current court history. I’m a mountainous fan of this movie.

I had preordered it and belief it included the Extended version. I would have rather owned the version

that adds 40 minutes and makes a more appetizing movie experience.

I was dissapointed to acquire out it was the modern theatrical version only.

If I had known that, I wouldn’t have purchased it. It’s spacious have Waterworld on Bluray, it looks astonishing,

but I would have rather waited for the extended version that I’m positive will advance out eventually. The movie companies always have to accept a diagram to design an extra buck at our expense by making us by the same movie twice.
