I am a big Red Green fan. I found Red Green on the PBS channel in Des Moines, IA about three years ago. Since the first time that I’ve seen the show, I was a fan from then on. Red Green is “Home Improvement” but going all the way to the right field. The Christmas shows just bring out the best of the cast & crew for one the biggest holidays. So, for anyone who is a dire hard Red Green fan, I recomend this DVD for you.

I usually avoid my fave shows’ “specials” like the plague. They never live up to expectations, they are obviously rushed into production to make a buck, etc.

I took a chance on Red Green Christmas last year, and I was pleasantly surprised. It’s very funny, well written, and just as good as the shows themselves. Wait until you see how Red takes holiday dinner to the relatives…

If you love the show you won’t be disappointed!

The issue of the DVD today has yielded a few surprises. There is some interesting material included in the DVD with the Theatrical Trailer, Interviews with the Director and Robert Shaw and also a short Black and White film is shown on how it was filmed including footage of the German military advisor who insured an accurate detailing of uniforms, events, etc. in this basically fictitious account of the famous battle of world war 2. Now what needs to be said is that this is a polished transfer of the widescreen film. The overture is put back and all of the extras that were usually cut. Including the “Panzerlied” gathering of tank commanders that is sometimes missing from television broadcasts as well as the “save the son but shoot the father” scene. The musical score by Frankel is one of the best made in a war film presentation in a full orchestra by the New philharmonic. They have restored the original soundtrack to the DVD and it is impressive for a movie that was made in the 60’s. Someone cared about putting this one back together and it shows! Graphics, scenery, etc. are all very impressive. Although this movie was panned as to accuracy as far as the situation, it is a very entertaining movie and is well remembered by everyone who saw it in the movies when it was released. Seeing it again now, it is as if I were back in that movie house and as if time had not moved on. A GREAT release! Worth it to any fan of this film.

This is a classic war movie. Though lacking historical realism, its still an enjoyable film. Lots of tanks anyway. Big name actors (Fonda, Bronson, Andrews, Shaw, Savalas, and the like). Not really about the real Battle Of The Bulge, it takes some of the events from that famous battle and remolds it into a kinda ‘what-if’ story about a German armoured spearhead that launches an attack to cut off Allied forces, to buy time to build the new jet aircraft and nuclear weapons and win the war. Names of characters are all fiction.

What really disappoints me is that a lot of footage (at least 20 minutes worth) has been cut out from the original print. Please, Warner, release the FULL version on DVD!

I love the Original series and purchased this item to finish my collection. This add on is not very good it lacks the feel and draw in appeal of the original. I’m sure others will like it but the computer slap on art work just didn’t mix well for me and it didn’t appeal to my artistic side. Would I want it anyway? of course - it completes a great series.

This seemed to be a good opp to clean up all the continuity issues, false starts and other stuff.

If anything I am more confused. Retcon seems to be the word of the day for this offering. Retcon is fine if clearing up previous continuity issues but uh it seems lke the retcon stuff made more to me.

The music was great. The animation of the characters was pretty lame - they look like manga toons, the CGI stuff was lame.

Why is it so hard to explain what happened to the 99% of the other original characters we wanted to see? Where are they all? Why are some around and how did they get there (Louie for instance) but not the others? Okay the rest of the third generation stayed on earth and left behind for good prolly but it would have been nice if you could have thrown us a bone and they made cameos at least.

Where is the rest of the first and second generation? I understand there is a comic that preceedes this that has some of them in it.

Why do new characters need to be introduced when there are so many you could have chosen from? I was hoping there would be mixing and matching from the three different generations. I understand if there is some matter of copyright or what not but just spread the word about that if so and there would be a little more understanding maybe.

Good to hear the old voices. All this did for me was explain nothing and raise more questions.

Overall the production was flat, everyone seems in slow motion talking and walking around (for instance character A asks Character B a questions…5 seconds later character B drones out a monotone answer), new characters are sort of weak, too much purple hair. One character with purple hair is fine but mix it up a little more.

This is like Sentinals all over again.

Hans Christian Andersen (1805-75) was an Ugly Duckling. He lived in the third largest town Odense, in Denmark. The son of a cobbler he was poverty ridden and a failure as an actor and it wasn’t until he moved to Copenhagen and won the patronage of Frederick VI, through his poetry, that he wrote his fairy tales and developed into a swan. Like many artists he wasn’t particularly happy, and never did marry, although he was very fond of Jenny Lind (1820-87) the Swedish Nightingale a soprano given the name by P.T. Barnum during her tour of the United States between 1850-52.) Charles Vidor’s film does state at the beginning, This is not the story of Hans Christian Andersen but a fairy tale about the great spinner of fairy tales. The Danes objected to the way Hans Christian Andersen was portrayed even though Goldwyn had rejected 21 previous manuscripts, so the film company inserted this statement in the credits.

Danny Kaye with his chiselled features does resemble H.C.Andersen when looking at his profile, but apart from this facial feature that’s where it stops. Kaye had dark hair but Hollywood soon changed that and he became a blonde, Andersen also had dark hair but he kept it that way.

Unlike some earlier musicals, this film does have a strong story line with loads of songs written by “Baby, It’s Cold Outside”, Frank Loessen, such as Thumbelina, Ugly Duckling, No Two People, and of course Wonderful Copenhagen. The scenery is very clever, the backgrounds look like illustrations from fairy tale books, but as the camera zooms in to the foreground the buildings and props become three dimensional similar to a pop-up-book.

There are four ballet scenes that I probably found boring back in `52, but revisiting them now, they are visually very interesting, technically I wouldn’t know if they are good or mediocre but for a Hollywood musical film, four ballets must of taken an enormous amount of consideration seeing as the film is really for kids. Once again the backdrops for the ballets also resemble fairy tale illustrations and pop-up-books.

Instead of a soprano, Andersen falls in love with a ballet dancer and here’s a musical that doesn’t have a very happy ending because poor Hans gets mixed up with a married woman. The ballet dancer Doro, is played by Zizi Jeanmaire, and is married to Niels played by Farley Granger. During the last part of the film, the audience is taken behind the scenes of the ballet company playing at the Royal Theater in Copenhagen, but this isn’t a film of a show included in a show, similar to earlier musicals, but an uplifting musical film with lots of music with catchy tunes helped by a ton of children.

The last ballet scene takes 17 minutes, quite long for a popular movie. In the film Hans writes a story especially for his love Doro, unfortunately Niels locks him in a cupboard so Andersen never sees her perform but has to use his imagination.

The ballet takes place on land and under the ocean. The surface waves are pop-up so that the dancers can be seen dancing in between the swells, it’s really very clever visually, and there’s no trickery here. Under the sea filled with monsters and witches, the heroine is probably attached to a pulley so that she can be seen swimming for the surface. There are no blue screens in this film, all effects are up-front and work perfectly similar to a staged ballet. Once again the technicolor process is used and this enhances the fairy tale effect with vivid colors.

Hans Christian Andersen fairy stories are not violent when compared to the Grimm brothers, but the themes usually have a lesson, and in the story written for Doro’s ballet, “The Little Mermaid,” it is saying that aiming for the stars does not always bring happiness, but then of course Walt Disney hadn’t yet arrived on the scene and he soon changed that philosophy.

With all due respect, Leonard Maltin just doesn’t get it with regard to this movie, and I hate to think his negative comments might prevent someone from seeing it. This was one of the most memorable movies from my childhood — and I can only have seen it twice at the most, because there were no videos in those days. We had the soundtrack album and those glorious and, yes, melodic, songs burned themselves into my consciousness. I could not wait until my daughter was old enough to share this movie with, and now that we are watching it together (she is three), it is a joy to see her, too, respond to the magic and music of Danny Kaye’s charming performance. For the past three months it has been her most requested video, and when we aren’t watching it, she wants me to sing the songs, and when I can’t do that, she sings them herself! And now that she is familiar with the musical versions of the fairy tales, she wants them read to her, and is thereby learning to listen to much longer and more complex stories than before.

This really is a special movie. No, it’s not an accurate portrayal of Anderson’s life, and it doesn’t pretend to be. In fact it says right there in the opening frame, “This is not the story of his life, but rather a fairy tale about this spinner of fairy tales.” And yes, the plot is a little limp. So as a movie it only gets four stars, not five. But it doesn’t matter. There is so much charm and magic and wonderful music here, that the experience of watching it, even over and over again, is a five-star experience that makes for lifelong memories.

Much like “Beverly Hills 90210″ and “Dawson’s Creek,” “The O.C.” is one of those series that is a true time capsule from the years of their broadcast. The show was made for the generation of teens and young adults growing up in the beginning of the new millennium. But unlike it’s predecessors it wasn’t aimed solely at teens, but at their older siblings and parents. This is what set the series apart from the competition, and why it’s first season was FOX’s # 1 series. Creator Josh Schwartz (almost fresh out of USC film school) created essentially a John Hughes-isq television show (if Molly Ringwald was 30lb thinner and had a no-limit Amex Card). But the pop-culture quirks, loveable characters, and rich/beautiful sets was what made “The OC” the place to be.

The First season starts when Sandy Cohen (a Public Defender) brings his newest client, Ryan home for the weekend to his posh Newport Beach House. After a series of random events Ryan is adopted by the Cohen’s and the first season follows his fish-out-of-water experiences learning the ins-and-outs of Rich society, and all the secrets that come with it. But events conspire outside of his control as he and his new brother, Seth, shake up the popularity Hierarchy at their High School.

The Second season takes the storylines and remaining characters from the first season and basically continues’ their story’s but with adding a lot more drama, subtracting some of the humor, and bringing 4 new characters into the mix.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The O.C.: The Complete Series Collection! Click Here

Season three is where the show lost its direction. Having lost almost 40% of its main characters, and completely abandoning the comedy in favor of almost unrealistic soapy drama a dry spill hit `The OC’ from which the show never truly recovered with the ratings and the critics. But if the third season did anything it show’s the gangs graduation from high school (IMO in the best Graduation Scene ever to be filmed) and the death of a major characters that allowed the producers to complete re-tool the series in season 4.

Season four was more or less a renaissance for the series. The creator returned to the show full-time (after a year hiatus) and the intense drama was dropped pretty early in the season in favor of some much need comedy that returned the show its quirky roots. But unfortunately this wasn’t enough and the show was cancelled; although the producers were given enough warning to write a finale that successfully and very-welly wraps everything up!

This DVD collection includes all 92 episodes on 28 discs. All special features from the previous releases have been carried over including two-discs of `bonus content’ and the first season is remastered in Widescreen for the first time!

This is a not a review of the O.C.; you’ve probably already seen that and know what it’s all about. If not, there are other reviews that can tell you all about the content. This is a review of “The O.C.: The Complete Series Collection.” What a beautiful send off for those who were sad to see the show end too soon.

The packaging is really unique. One thing that is not conveyed by the stock photos is the size–it’s really big, about twice as big as I expected. This is not going to fit easily on your average DVD shelf. The outer case is solid and the book packaging itself is really well done. There are some images from the original box sets’ booklets as well as some new pictures that I haven’t seen before. The book contains a mix of glossy pages with the episode descriptions and Atomic County excerpts and the thicker cardboard pages holding the discs. On these pages, there are discs on one side and a photo on the other.

The sleeves for the DVDs are cardboard, but (unlike some other sets) the discs were not scratched when I got the set. Part of this is because a piece of foam was inserted in between the book packaging and the outer plastic case so that the book didn’t slide around and bang against the case during shipping.

The new features are nice but not necessary–if you already have the sets then the decision whether to buy or to stick with season sets is mostly a matter of how much you like this packaging. I have to say, though, the packaging is pretty dramatic and a lot of effort was put into giving this show the proper treatment. It’s not just a bunch of old discs thrown in a crappy package and called a complete set.

This is a great OVERLOOKED CLASSIC movie to watch all year round especially during the holiday season. Now available on DVD in a WideScreen format!!
One Magic Christmas is a classic story about a struggling family who lost the Holiday Spirit and the mother the belief of “Merry Christmas”. Through some hair raising events they regain their faith and belief in themselves and others.
In Summary: A Christmas Angel (Harry Dean Stanton) is sent to help a family re-discover the “Spirit of Christmas”. The Angel uses the daughter (you’ll love this 7 year old, Elisabeth Harnois - the cutest girl with the most adorable blue eyes) to help restore her mother’s (Mary Steenbergen) lost Christmas Spirit and belief in “MERRY CHRISTMAS”.
Through some tough choices & lessons the mother has her faith in her fellow man, family and the Christmas Spirit restored.
The Angel and the daughter’s beliefs guide us through the events and we even get a trip to the “North Pole and see Mr & Mrs Santa Claus!!!! With the comfort and protection of the Christmas Angel our journey is both eye opening and satisfying.
A Christmas Classic to add to your DVD holiday collection.
This is “ONE MAGIC CHRISTMAS” you won’t forget!!!!!!!

One of those depressing Christmas flicks with a happy ending, this truly family movie has a good message about remembering what is really important in life. The main character, Ginny, is caught up in her her own problems and worries. She has lost her Christmas spirit and has forgotten how important her loved ones are to her. On a cautionary note, this film is different from other movies such as “It’s a Wonderful Life” and “The Preacher’s Wife” in that the angel seems to be a representative of Santa Claus, setting up good ‘ol St. Nick to be a God-like figure. When tragedy strikes the family (not too much detail here so as not to spoil the movie if you haven’t seen it yet) the angel takes Ginny’s young daughter to Santa Claus. He tells her he can’t solve her problem, but that her mother has the power to do it herself. The turning point in the movie left me wondering how it exactly happened, but it is a movie with a supernatural theme so this is part of the charm. Good acting by all the cast. A movie that the whole family can enjoy.

Blue Seed is the story of Momiji, the descendant of the legendary Kushinada princess and last hope for humankind against the plant-like monsters called Aragami. I really enjoyed this series. It has humor, sadness, action (you know, the stuff that makes anime great). The characters are well developed and the storyline in intriguing. However, the story does have a tendency to become more repetitive at the middle of the series. The ending was not disappointing, though. If you like action anime, I reccomend this.

I first heard about this anime was in the mid 90s. I did not watch it but my friends kept saying how good, how exciting this anime was. At that time, I was not interested in watching it. If I did not watch this anime, I would have regreted. It is because it is a really exciting anime. The story is complicating, though it never loses its track. No wonder this anime was taken as a high profile during the debut. Everybody was talking about it, at school, hangout, etc. In the middle of the story, I always wondered what would happen next and in the end. The monsters, aragami and another enemy, Susano ou are strong. One complicate thing is they are not joint enermies at all but it seems like they are up to one common desire. I do not say much about the story because I want you to watch the anime before knowing the result. Besides the fighting and the excitment, the relationship between Momiji and Kusanagi can stick you on the chair until you watch the ending. I do not find boring in even one of the episodes. Every single episode is so good and attractive that no one would like to wait for the next episode. Another good point about this anime is it makes you use your brain to figure out what is happening. There are jokes but not meaningless, lame jokes.

Finally, after all this time, Warner Brothers have come to their senses. On October 7th, we will be treated to a heftly helping of one of the greatest Christmas films to ever grace the silver screen…………in WIDESCREEN.

I was extremely disappointed with the previous DVD release of this film which contained a pan & scan presentation and nothing more than a theatrical trailer in the extras department.

What we have here is a special edition of this great movie, which will contain audio commentary from both Beverly D’Angelo and Chevy Chase, a “making of” featurette, as well as other stocking stuffers which have yet to be disclosed at this present time.

Being a huge fan of this movie, I honestly can’t wait for this release. “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” has become a holiday tradition in my home, and to be able to see it the way it was intended to be seen is truly a treat for me.

Aside from the features of the disk, the film itself is the true gift. One of the funniest movies today which still withstands the test of time even 15 years later. The premise is simple. Clark W. Griswold (Chevy Chase) is hell bent on having an old-fashioned family Christmas in his home, relatives and all. Of course, the hilarity kicks in when things start to go awry. There are so many hilarious scenes in this movie, it would be difficult to list them all. You have everything from an electrocuted cat, to a house with the brightest Christmas light display known to man. Let’s not forget the dried up turkey, the saucer sled and the dog/squirrel chase! There’s so much more I could say to praise this movie, but if you haven’t already seen it, [I won't say more]

You really take your life in your hands every time you sit down with a Chevy Chase film. Let’s face reality here: Chevy Chase is responsible for several of the worst movies ever made. Does it take more than a few minutes of viewing to see the mind numbing folly of “Nothing But Trouble,” “The Three Amigos,” and “Spies Like Us”? Chase has sure had his truly embarrassing moments on the big screen. What redeems the guy, at least in my eyes, are several films that play up to the comedian’s smart alecky, deadpan delivery. “Fletch,” of course, is the gold standard of Chevy Chase films, but other movies showcase his talents just as well. I always thought “Deal of the Century” a classic Chase film, as well as “Foul Play” (although the latter was more of an ensemble picture). But we need look no further than the four National Lampoon Vacation films to truly judge the merits of this comedian turned actor. Actually, I should say three Vacation films since the second installment, where the Griswold family went on a tour of Europe, ranks as one of the most dreadful stories ever put on film. Of the three successful entries, “Christmas Vacation” is the best, perhaps even eclipsing the first movie that started it all.

Buy,Download, Or Stream National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation! Click Here

You won’t hear the familiar strains of Lindsey Buckingham’s “Holiday Road” in “Christmas Vacation,” and there are no corpses strapped to the top of a station wagon either. Instead, the film invites us into the Griswold home for an old fashioned Christmas celebration the likes of which soon reach catastrophic levels. Clark (Chevy Chase) and Ellen (Beverly D’Angelo) Griswold, along with their disinterested kids Audrey (Juliette Lewis) and Russ (Johnny Galecki), invite the whole family over for a season filled with happiness. Clark’s parents Clark Sr. (John Randolph) and Nora (Diane Ladd) show up, as does Ellen’s folks Art (E.G. Marshall) and Frances (Doris Roberts). And yes, even Cousin Eddie (Randy Quaid) makes an appearance to save the day. Of course, along with the family comes the inevitable frustrations and stresses everyone who has ever dealt with a reunion dreads. Clark Griswold refuses, at least initially, to fall into a morass of cynicism and despair amidst the bickering and insults. His invention of a new milk preservative has our hero hoping his Christmas bonus will be extra big this year, big enough so he can install an in ground swimming pool in the backyard. Unfortunately, his boss Frank Shirley (Brian Doyle-Murray) is a scrooge with plans to make the company more fiscally conservative.

While he waits for the check to arrive at the house, Clark embarks on several hilarious projects that haul in the belly laughs. His attempts to cover every square inch of his house with Christmas lights is a chore requiring several falls off a ladder, pointed verbal repartees with his snotty neighbors Margo and Todd Chester (Julia-Louis Dreyfus and Nicholas Guest), and repeated failures to get the strands to light up. The acquisition and installment of the Griswold family Christmas tree is another chore handled in Clark’s inimitable style. Imagine the pine they string up in Rockefeller Square every year, subtract roughly five feet from its height, and you have the tree Clark insists on setting up in the house. This thing is so huge that the branches knock out the windows when Griswold cuts the rope holding the branches together. No Yuletide season, however, would be complete without a trip to the slopes for a sledding excursion, an event filled with disastrous implications when Griswold comes up with the bright idea to cover the bottom of his sled with a Teflon based substance. My favorite scenario involves Clark trapped in his attic for a few hours. He spends his time dressed up in women’s clothing (to stay warm) watching old home movies of his childhood. His abrupt fall through the trap door had me laughing for hours afterwards.

Buy,Download, Or Stream National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation! Click Here

The cast of “Christmas Vacation” gels fantastically, far better than any cast in the other three films. Kudos as always go to Randy Quaid as the squirrelly moocher Eddie; a film in this series just wouldn’t be the same without this character driving Clark to fits of distraction. Beverly D’Angelo is one of those actresses who get hotter and hotter with age. The linchpin of the film is, as always, Chevy Chase as the disaster prone Clark Griswold. This is a role tailor made for his brand of clumsy, caustic humor. I don’t know about you, but Chase’s depiction reminds me in many ways of my own father–he won’t listen to the advice of anyone else, his ideas are the best ideas, he tosses safety to the wind when working on dangerous projects, etc. But like my Dad–and probably countless other fathers–Clark is sincere and wants his loved ones to have wonderful family memories. The film works so well, I suspect, because most of us instantly recognize his character traits in our own beloved family patriarchs. Especially when Clark can’t stand the pressure anymore and launches into one of his over the top tirades, again a trademark of our own fed up fathers.

Although the DVD carries the “Special Edition” tag, the extras are surprisingly sparse. A trailer and a commentary constitute the sum total of goodies available on the disc. Moreover, the commentary doesn’t include Chevy Chase. At least you hear Randy Quaid, Beverly D’Angelo, Johnny Galecki, Miriam Flynn (Eddie’s wife Catherine), director Jeremiah Chechik, and producer Marty Simmons, but why no Clark W. Griswold? Perhaps he wanted too much money. His absence is unfortunate and mars what is otherwise a great commentary track. I don’t even wait until Christmas to watch this movie; it’s fun works year round. If you haven’t seen it yet, you ought to immediately. You’ll love it.

Sometimes the impresive achievements of the Imax and dvd technologies exceed the quality of the content of a certain documentary. This is not the case. If any, this video keeps us longing for more, much more. Since the beginning of this highly entertaining video we feel commited to watch one of the untamed scenaries of our world. Virgin Landscapes (rivers and mountains that are yet to be named), wild and funny animals (such as the black bear taking a bath, the humpback whales bubblenetting, the wild polar bear cubs and the stubborn salmon) and an extreme weather that changes the sorrounding scenary on a daily basis are described and tought with either the lightness of humour, or the concern of a nature fan. If you like to watch beautiful images over and over, buy this dvd.

and the film was so good I went out and bought more Imax films. Unfortunaley not all of the Imax films are as good as this one. This film has everything going for it the photography and naration are top notch. The film keeps moving and your never bored. DVD’S are expensive and it is easey to get hook when buy a good one. There are many good Imax films but not all of them are worth the price. This one and The Living Sea stand out above the rest in my opinion. The Adventures in Wild California is another one though it has not been release on DVD that I have seen are just excellent. On the other hand films like Niagrea,Yellowstone and The Grand Canyon are a big step down. In those films they try to tell a story and it comes off more like amatuer night. When I view an Imax film I look for spectacular images, fun and for it to be educational. The first three films I have mention fit the bill.
